The greatest scientist of all times, Albert Einstein, had this to say about the Supreme Intelligence he saw working in the Universe. There could be no better definition of Sat- Chit-Anand, the three attributes of God:
The most beautiful and most profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the power of all true science. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the Highest Wisdom and the Most Radiant Beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their most primitive forms–this knowledge, this feeling is at the centre of true religiousness.
Shri Nathji often spoke of scientific discoveries as being divinely inspired.
From where do new thoughts, new ideas, new inspirations come to man? Surely they are not the product of his brain alone, for a fraction of a second earlier, they were not there. They could not have come from a place where they were not. Hence, they came from some other source–and that source was God! The discoveries of science were really inspirations sent from above, and provided one of the strongest proofs of the existence of God!
Just like God was revealing spiritual truths through His messengers on earth, He was revealing His scientific truths through scientists on earth. The inspirations that came to Albert Einstein, when he was working as a clerk in a patent office, were nothing short of a miracle. It was his theory of relativity that led to the discovery of atomic energy.
Each and every particle in the Universe follows a very definite path dictated by the laws of Nature. Very definite equations depict the movements of the particle with mathematical accuracy. Indeed, all of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics–and all other sciences–are merely discovering the scientific side of God. He is the Supreme Physicist, the Supreme Chemist and the Supreme Mathematician. He is the Supreme Scientist.
Shri Nathji used to say:
That leaf moved because God willed it to move! And I can prove it. What moved the leaf? The wind. And what caused the wind? The atmospheric pressure. And who created the atmosphere? The Creator of the earth! Therefore the wind moved in obedience to His Laws!”
The lives of many of these men of science were as devoid of worldly desires as were the lives of men of God. The same humility, sense of righteousness and detachment marked their lives.
The men of science were discovering the secrets of His Creation, without knowing of God; and the men of God were discovering Him without knowing of the secrets of His Creation.  The two were discovering the two faces of the same coin.
Shri Nathji used to say:
Scientific achievements merely help mankind to alleviate suffering; it is only their misuse that is wrong. The same fire that does your cooking can burn down your house.
“Sin means mis-directed energy!
Look at a tape-recorder, Shri Nathji would say, had it existed in the past we would have had the living voices of the prophets and avatars that existed in ages past. Imagine the Gita in the original voice of Lord Krishna!
“Science has invented photography. Had this existed in the past, we would have had pictures of Krishna, Rama, Nanak, Christ, Buddha! Today we can only imagine what they looked like! Mankind was deprived of great things because of the lack of scientific advancement!
A tape-recorder would hold a great fascination and delight for Shri Nathji. Years ago in the 1930’s when such machines did not exist, he had said:
Nature shall have to return to me all the words that I have spoken. I have stored my gems in the past!
And later, when tape-recorders came into existence, he said: Today, that debt has been repaid. I am collecting all my thoughts and inspirations from Nature’s storehouse and I am preserving them on tape!
Indeed, the sound of Shri Nathji’s voice on tape was like the sound of a voice from the Heavens. Its melody touched the human soul. Sometimes he would listen to his own recordings, his eyes shut.
“This is not my voice,” he would say, “it is the voice of God!”
No one in the world could record into a tape-recorder like Shri Nathji did. He would hold the microphone before his mouth and close his eyes. The words would go out of him in a divine flow, becoming more and more powerful as he spoke. Later, listeners would be completely overwhelmed by the voice.
A physicist from Thailand, Dr. Kopr Kritayakirana, who was a colleague of Priya Nath at Harvard, heard Shri Nathji’s voice on tape. He could not understand the language-Hindi-in which Shri Nathji had recorded his speech, but he was deeply touched by the very sound of the voice. Whatever he is saying, it sounds very convincing, he said.
Many years after the Americans had landed on the moon, Shri Nathji would say:
Man landed on the moon. It was undoubtedly a great scientific achievement. But what did he bring back? Rocks!
“Let us all build a space-ship that will carry us to God!
Shri Nathji would be greatly interested in the phenomenon of electro-magnetic waves which were almost everywhere at the same time.
For example, the radio station would be in Parliament Street, New Delhi, and the listeners could listen to the sound all over Delhi and elsewhere.
A man in the street would be listening to the same song that a man in his house would be listening to. Everywhere – in the garden, in the market place, on the roads, in the air, in a car or a cycle or a Tonga – people could switch on their radios and listen to the same song simultaneously.
Was it not a great miracle that one sound could exist in so many different places at the same time and that so many different people could listen to it using their radios?
It was a small-scale scientific manifestation of omnipresence. The electromagnetic waves appeared to be everywhere at the same time. It was a good example to use of God being everywhere at the same time! Only the receptive heart could feel His presence, just like the radio, which received electromagnetic waves.
Surely the miracles of science–like electromagnetic waves, atomic energy, and hundreds of other applications–excelled anything that man could accomplish in the field of ‘miracles’, without the aid of science. If miracles were all that one required to prove the existence of God, one could turn to the miracles of science all of which stemmed from God!
As of the writing of this article, there was startling new evidence on the birth of the Universe which might eventually help to prove scientifically the existence of God. A leading astrophysicist of the world, Dr. Robert Jastrow, director of the Goddard Institute of Space Studies in New York, announced a long-term research programme to prove the existence of God.
A team of scientists at the University of California found evidence of the fact that the big bang in which the Universe was born 15,000 million years ago was a finely orchestrated and tightly controlled event. It was not a random, haphazard explosion in space. And if it was a controlled event–who controlled it? The answer can only be God.
The evidence found by a three-man team at the University of California – Dr. George Smoot, Dr. Richard Muller and Marc Lawrence – was widely publicised in the newspapers of the world in 1978.
The evidence found was contained in the leftover radiation of the big bang which these scientists studied. It took 15,000 million years for the radiation to reach the earth. The evidence is perhaps the single greatest contribution of man’s understanding of the nature of the universe since the big bang theory was first proposed.
