Shri Nathji would not be over-awed by material wealth. He would sometimes relate the meeting of Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jammu and Kashmir with Shri Babaji Maharaj.
Maharaja! Shri Babaji Maharaj had said to him, your entire kingdom has not as much worth in my eyes as this little piece of straw in my hand. The piece of straw I have use for, because I can use it in an example, but I have not even that much use for thy kingdom.
Make me your disciple, the Maharaja had said to him.
Only if you promise to give up your kingdom and serve the poor here, with your own hands, said Shri Babaji Maharaj.
I can place servants at your disposal, said the Maharaja.
Then it is they who will benefit, not you! If you want fragrance from the flowers in your garden will you send your servants to smell them for you? No, you must do your own part yourself! said Shri Babaji Maharaj.
The Maharaja had no son and was, therefore greatly worried. But the price Shri Babaji Maharaj had demanded was too great for him. He could not renounce his kingdom, and Shri Babaji Maharaj could not accept him with it.
