At Mr. Mandel’s house, Shri Nathji rested. Mr. Mandel’s daughter-in-law, Jill, brought slippers for Shri Nathji’s tired feet. His son, David, was studying in college during those days.
Shri Nathji said:
Mr. Mandel, I am very grateful for your hospitality. One day, I shall hope to see you in my home, in India.
At that time Benjamin Mandel had no plans to come to India.
Benjamin Mandel was Jewish by origin, as was Dr. Herman Winick. Shri Nathji would speak of them and say:
Jews are the jewels of the garland of God.
He would never tire of speaking of their hospitality.
Shri Nathji’s words were to come true. Many years later, in 1971, Mr. Mandel’s son, David, joined the diplomatic service, and was sent on an assignment to Nepal and India. Mr. Mandel flew out to the East at his son’s invitation–and found himself a guest in Shri Nathji’s house in New Delhi!
Shri Nathji would often say:
Even if someone has done the slightest thing for me it leaves a burden upon my heart, until I have done something for him.
