Shri Nathji was in Patiala in the Punjab. He was walking along with a group of people.
What is beneath your feet? he asked suddenly. The people were startled. They thought he had seen a snake.
Nothing, they said.
The ground! said Shri Nathji, is it not beneath your feet? And to whom does this land belong?
The Maharaja of Patiala.
And where is Patiala?
In the Punjab?
So the land here belongs to the Punjab. And where is the Punjab?
In India.
So the land belongs to India. And where is India? On this earth. So the land belongs to this earth. And where is the earth? In the Universe. And where is the Universe? It exists in the Will of God. It is His Universe. So the land here belongs to God! The real owner was He! What an array of superficial owners one had imagined!” concluded Shri Nathji.
As he would say in verse:
Kabko Kumri men hai jhagraa ke chaman kiska hai
Kal bataa degee khizaan ye ki vatan kiska hai
The birds of different feathers do squabble: Who owns this garden?
Tomorrow shall the answer come, when comes the Autumn!

Shri Nathji elaborated: In a greater sense we all exist in the thought of God, and therefore we exist in Him! We are a part of His Creation.
And Shri Nathji said: They drew a circle and threw me out. But I drew a bigger circle and took them in!
