At South Extension, Delhi, Shakuntala Mehra would come for Shri Nathji’s darshan every day and would always bring something with her, which she thought could be useful in Shri Nathji’s house. One day she brought a bottle of phenyl for cleaning the rooms. The phenyl was white, like milk.
Brij Mohan, the servant, took the bottle into the kitchen and began to boil it so that he could use it for Shri Nathji’s tea. Since he had a cold in his nose he could not detect the smell of the poisonous chemical. Priya Nath discovered the mistake and hastily had the phenyl thrown away. Thereafter, both Priya Nath and Shri Nathji would keep a strict vigil over the kitchen and Brij Mohan.
Shri Nathji would sometimes place a chair in the kitchen and keep a watch on Brij Mohan. As the man had come from the cool regions of the mountains, the hot weather of the plains made him sleepy most of the time. However, all this showed the state of affairs that existed in Shri Nathji’s home after the going away of Mateshwari.
