Shri Nathji’s relatives at Dehra Dun realised their folly very soon and came to beg forgiveness of Shri Nathji. Prem Nath would always fall at the feet of Shri Nathji and Mateshwari and beg for their pardon a thousand times and more. Shri Nathji, who was the living epitome of love and forgiveness, returned soon thereafter to Dehra Dun and lived for some time with Prem Nath and his in-laws at his house at Inder Road till March 1944, before going to Mussoorie again.
Immediately after his arm operation in 1943, Shri Nathji had sent the Kasera brothers to their home at Hathras. He had asked them what they would do now that they were to fend their way in the world, and they had replied by saying: “We will start a small ‘paan’-betel leaf- shop after borrowing five hundred rupees from someone.”
Shri Nathji had said: “You have served me loyally over the years. Will I allow you to start a small ‘paan’ shop?”
They went to Hathras and began a cloth business. They informed Shri Nathji about the work they had started. Shri Nathji sent them a telegram that said: “Blessings. Flourish” And true to Shri Nathji’s words, the Kasera brothers became the leading cloth merchants of Hathras within a very short time.
After the Kasera brothers had left, the house at Dehra Dun appeared to be a very lonely place for Shri Nathji and Mateshwari. Even Rai Bahadur Ugra Sen, the mayor of Dehra Dun, who was a great devotee of Shri Nathji, noticed the vacancy created by the departure of the Kasera brothers and had occasion to say: “Kitna achhaa group thhaa! What a fine group it was!”
By that time there was but Sardar Basant Singh who served his master loyally through all circumstances that came his way. He was frequently maltreated by Prem Nath and his in-laws who even went so far as to beat him in bouts of drunkenness. However, he bore this in silence because of his love for Shri Nathji. Indeed Sardar Basant Singh was the only bodyguard and devotee that Shri Nathji had with him in the vitiated atmosphere that prevailed at Dehra Dun.
