Shri Nathji was amongst the first few persons in Mussoorie to have a telephone in the house. The number of the telephone was 281. It was a black telephone with a detachable receiver that could be taken to the ear, while the mouthpiece remained fixed on a foot-long upright stand. There was no dial, and Shri Nathji had to lift up the telephone receiver and tell the number to the operator who would then try to make a connection. Trunk calls were a rarity. Shri Nathji had been advised to keep the telephone after the revolver episode. The telephone was used by Maharaja Sarila and his family members also on many occasions.
