It was evening. Shri Nathji was resting in the verandah of his house after his sermon. Shri Sohni came to him and said:
A certain lady, Tai Maharaj by name, has come to see you. She is from Amravati. She appears to have come with great devotion!
Shri Nathji, who always sought for an excuse to meet those who came to him, instantly got ready to meet her.
Tai Maharaj was eighty years old. She had become a widow at a very young age, and had decided to devote the rest of her life to God.
She had made the Gopal Mandir at Amravati, a city some fifty miles or so from Akola, and lived there taking the name of God. People had come to regard her as a saint, and she had a large group of followers in the area.
She had fallen seriously ill. A devotee of Shri Nathji had gone to her with a photograph of Shri Nathji and had said:
God has come down to earth as an avatar in the Kaliyuga. He is known by the name of Shri Bhola Nathji Bhagwan!
Tai Maharaj saw the picture and it filled her heart with gladness. She saw God in the portrait. And she said:
If you have come down to earth in this bodily form, then I pray you to grant me your darshan before I leave this world!
This desire of hers was to be fulfilled. Shri Nathji had come to Akola. All of Shri Nathji’s movements were at the calling of thirsty souls wherever they were in the world. It was the prayers of these genuine souls that moved Shri Nathji.
He had travelled hundreds of miles from the North of India to give his darshan to Tai Maharaj.
The moment Tai Maharaj heard that Shri Nathji had arrived in Akola she came for his darshan. She had just recovered from her illness. Before leaving Amravati for Akola, she said to her followers:
I am going to see Shri Nathji. If he is, indeed, the God I prayed to, I shall urge him to come to Amravati!
Tai Maharaj came before Shri Nathji and her soul was flooded with an instant recognition. She saw the Divine Form of Shri Nathji and prostrated before him. Yes, he was the Gopal Krishna she had worshipped all her life.
She prayed to Shri Nathji to come to Amravati. She wanted Shri Nathji to give his darshan to her followers so that they, too, would be blessed with an inner recognition. As their guru it was her responsibility to bring her disciples to the final destination, which she had just found. Shri Nathji accepted her invitation.
She returned to Amravati and informed her disciples of Shri Nathji. Her words to her followers were like foundations of rock and everyone became eager to secure Shri Nathji’s darshan.
A day had been fixed for Shri Nathji’s arrival there. Tai Maharaj and her followers resolved to take their first meal only after Shri Nathji had arrived at Amravati.
A band was called to welcome Shri Nathji. Numerous cars arrived to lead him in procession into the city. Everyone waited with breathless expectancy.
The entire city of Amravati appeared to be bedecked with a festive air. The Lord of the Heavens and the Earth was coming.
