The whole life of Shri Nathji lay behind him as a witness to the truth within him. He was the son of a millionaire, with a beauty so astonishing, and an intellect so all-embracing, that he could have taken the world by storm, but who had instead so effaced himself as to live unobtrusively with his family in seclusion and to not to allow propaganda or proselytising or to induct a large number of followers into his fold, or to make any organisation for the collection of funds, which was what many holy men of the time were doing.
Shri Nathji had once said angrily to a minister who had asked him some questions:

“Mujhe maaloom naheen ke meri baton kaa aap par kuchh asar ho rahaa hai yaa naheen, magar mere liye to ye saari zindagi kaa savaal hain.

“I do not know whether my words are having any effect upon you or not, but for me they are the reality of my whole existence.”

“Main jo ek shabd bhee nikaaltaa hoon uske peechhe meri saari zindagi kaa experience hotaa hai!

“When I utter even one word before you, that word has the experience of a lifetime behind it!”
