As the Standard car sped along the way, Shri Nathji learnt that the next stop was going to be the city of Indore. The Maharaja of Indore, His Highness Tukoji Rao Holkar, had been very devoted to him in the years past. He had first heard his sermon at the Rialto Theatre at Mussoorie and had become attracted to him. He would say to Shri Nathji: “Such peace can only be obtained through you!”
He had come for Shri Nathji’s darshan and blessings at Shri Nathji’s home at Dehra Dun in 1938. At that time he had had the darshan of Shri Nathji as well as Shri Babaji Maharaj. He had come again in 1940 after the birth of Pran Nath and paid his obeisances to Shri Nathji.
In the Dehra Dun house, there was a long garden path leading from the gate to the house. Maharaja Indore would remove his shoes at the gate. He would refuse the shoes of cotton offered by his Secretary and walk bare-footed all the way to Shri Nathji.
Shri Nathji had been so pleased with the Maharaja’s humility that he would narrate it ever afterwards in his sermons saying: “Maharaja Indore nange paanv chalkar aate thhe! Maharaja Indore would come walking bare-footed for my darshan.”
