Mrs. Vig had a monumental faith in Shri Nathji, but it was her desire that all her relatives and friends receive the same Light from Shri Nathji that she had been granted. She wanted to bring them to him, but many of them did not believe in Shri Nathji, and were not inclined to travel large distances to meet him.
Mrs. Vig burnt herself in an accident in her house. The burns were serious. Doctors gave little hope of recovery, and, therefore, her husband brought her to Shri Nathji.
The sound of cries brought Shri Nathji out of his residence at Cavendish Hotel. Mateshwari was also with him at the time.
When he saw the plight of Mrs. Vig, and the faith of her husband, Shri Nathji said:
Mrs. Vig, your faith shall reward you. Not only will you recover completely, but even the burn marks shall disappear from your face altogether!
Shri Nathji’s assurance helped them to tide over the difficult days ahead. Sometime later, they came to Shri Nathji again. Mrs. Vig was completely cured. Her face showed no signs of ever being burnt, nor did the rest of her body.
She said to Shri Nathji: I have no words with which to thank you for saving me! But I had asked for this affliction myself!
The people who were gathered at Shri Nathji’s place at the time were greatly surprised at her words.
She continued: I had tried very hard to bring my relatives to Shri Nathji, to instil faith in them, but all my efforts had failed. And then, I genuinely and sincerely prayed to Shri Nathji that he make me so ill that all my relatives would have to come to my house to enquire after my health! And my prayer was heard! My relatives have seen this miracle for themselves and they have been converted. True, I had to endure the pain of burning, but I did not suffer because of my faith in you, nor did I fret at any moment, for I knew you were with me.
Shri Nathji recalled his example: A candle must endure the pain of burning in order to give light to others! Mrs. Vig had endured the suffering of the flesh to bring salvation to the souls of others.
Mrs. Vig’s faith in Shri Nathji continued to grow over the years. In 1965 a war was going on between India and Pakistan. Mrs.Vig’s son was in the army and he had been ordered to proceed to the war front. Mrs. Vig immediately sent a telegram to Shri Nathji to protect her son. The next day a cease-fire was declared.
Mrs. Vig had experienced many such incidents in her life, which revealed the divinity of Shri Nathji in flashes.
Shri Nathji frequently praised womankind for their firmness of faith and their ability to bear suffering.
Shri Nathji used to say: “A woman will either never become attached to any one principle – but if she does, then no power on earth can stand in her way, and no amount of suffering can shake her faith or detract from her devotion!”
