The return journey from Simla was attended to by hilarious moments as a herd of mules came in front of Shri Nathji’s car. The more Victor honked the horn of the car the faster the mules ran on the road in front of the car.
Each time he would try to overtake the mules they would move into the centre of the road. This continued for several miles. Shri Nathji, Mateshwari and the children laughed loudly. Victor himself was in the throes of a hysterical fit as he said: “Ho-ho-ho-ho…” each time he blew the horn of the car at the mules. Shri Nathji and the children recalled that sound of laughter for years to come.
The road was finally cleared of the herd and the car reached the town of Kalkaji. Just then the lights of the car failed completely and the horn ceased to blow. The dynamo of the car had ceased to function. The car came to a halt on a deserted patch of the road in the darkness.
It was only Shri Nathji’s divine power that finally got the car to move again and to reach Mussoorie without further mishap. But the incident left an indelible impression on Shri Nathji’s mind.
In all future car journeys whenever the car would give ominous jerks, Shri Nathji would immediately enquire from the driver: “Dynamo charge kar rahaa hai? Is the dynamo charging?”
