In the days that followed, Khanna fell sick. When he became very ill and knew that the end was near, he asked his wife to bring the old garments of Shri Nathji which he had kept in a trunk in his home. These were the clothes that Shri Nathji had worn when he used to reside with Khanna in the 1930’s at Lucknow.
Even as his wife brought the old shirts of Shri Nathji to Khanna, he touched them with his hands with reverence and said:
“Ye meri agli zindagi kaa passport hai! This is my passport to the next world!”
Khanna did not read the Gita before he passed away, instead he read Shri Nathji’s book: Payaame Muhabbat”- A Message of Love.
His last words to his wife were:
Jaano! I have a confession to make to you! I have never loved anyone in my whole life as much as I loved Shri Nathji.
Jaano! Maine jitnaa pyaar zindagi men Shri Nathji ko kiyaa hai, kissee ko naheen kiyaa!”
He had Shri Nathji’s garland placed around his neck just before he left for higher regions, in triumph.
R. R. Khanna was a very special landmark in Shri Nathji’s life, and Shri Nathji would never tire of speaking of his beloved devotee before people. Even after Khanna had left his mortal frame, he remained vividly alive in Shri Nathji’s sermons, and became immortalised forever in the history of the Avatar upon earth.
Shri Nathji had this deep and intensely personal spiritual relationship with many of the people who were devoted to him All relationships with Shri Nathji were enduring. In life as well as in death, a devotee would never be far from him.
