There was a time when Shri Babaji Maharaj stopped eating solid food for about six months but subsisted only on little sips of milk every day. People would throng to him in large numbers and he would go on speaking to them day and night untiringly.
Said a devotee: Babaji don’t you ever get tired?
And Shri Babaji said: Does a flute ever get tired?
The devotee continued: But he who plays the flute must surely get tired.
And Shri Babaji Maharaj said: He died within me a long time ago!
Shri Babaji was referring to the death of the ego, the I of the body, which had been effaced by him. His body had now become an instrument of God.
Shri Babaji Maharaj would frequently say in Persian:
Haq jaane jahaanasto jahaan jumla badan
Tauheed haminasto deegar haa hamaa fan
The Lord is the Soul of the Universe and the Universe His Body
This alone is truth and the rest is all cant.
