Shri Babaji Maharaj had once said:
“There are certain souls who could never be converted, not even if God appeared before them in the fullness of His Glory as Vishnu, Brahma or Mahesh!
“Aise bhee log hain jinke aage agar Saakshaat Bhagwan bhee pragat ho jaayen, Vishnu Brahma Mahesh ke roop men, to bhee unpar koyi asar naheen parregaa!”
Shri Nathji’s Persian verse spoke volumes on this theme:
Kaan raa ke badaadand badaadand badaadand
Vaan raa ke na daadand na daadand na daadand
He, whom God wishes to give, He gives and He gives,
And He, whom He does not wish to give, He never gives!
Shri Nathji once said to Mrs. Bhutt:
It is not enough to secure God. One must secure His Grace as well–unki kripaa ko bhee paanaa zaroori hai. Further, it is not enough to secure his Grace; having secured it, one must learn to preserve it as well! Unki kripaa ko rakhnaa bhee zaroori hai!
Shri Nathji would also say: It is raining. There are two glasses lying in the rain. One is standing upright, while the other is lying upside down. The rain is falling equally upon both. However, one of them will be filled, while the other will remain empty.
“Do glass parre hain. Ek seedhaa hai aur ek ultaa parraa hai. Varshaa to donon par baraabar ho rahi hai, magar jo seedhaa glass hai vo bhartaa jayegaa, aur jo ultaa hai vo khaali raih jaayegaa!”
Unless one goes before God with a receptive heart, He cannot fill it with His Grace.
Shri Babaji Maharj would often say in English:
He who has not given up the ways of vice, He whose mind is not at rest,
He who cannot control himself,
Can never realise the Self
Though full of learning of the world!
Shri Babaji Maharaj’s words were true even for those mahatmas who claimed to have attained a state of Self-Realisation but who were filled with desires to become great and to be worshipped by large numbers of followers. Pride, avarice, anger and restlessness filled the lives of these holy men.
