Shri Nathji was living in the house at Dehra Dun along with his younger brother, Prem Nath. Shri Nathji had always loved him and cared for him since the time they were very young. His brother was a dashing, handsome young man – a prince amongst princes; almost always he would be seen in the most elegant of western clothes, tailored to perfection by British tailors like Ranken Co. Shri Nathji would often say about him that:  He is a King outwardly, and a Faqueer inwardly. Shri Prem Nath was brave, if a trifle reckless, and would not hesitate to pick a quarrel even with the most powerful. He was proud of the fact that he was the son of Shri Babaji Maharaj, and the brother of Shri Nathji. There was a time, when, at a reception, he was asked to vacate a chair meant for a Maharaja’s son. He refused. If he is a Maharaja’s son; I am the son of Shri Babaji Maharaj! he said.
There was the time when he had been operated upon in the stomach, and his wound was found to be healing improperly. A second operation was advised by the doctors, but Shri Prem Nath prayed to Shri Babaji Maharaj all night long–and the next morning the wound had healed itself.
People often drew a parallel between Shri Prem Nath and Lakshman, the hot-tempered brother of Lord Rama. Both Prem Nath and Lakshman, believed in the divinity of their elder brothers. During those early days, Shri Nathji travelled from place to place solely at the insistence of Prem Nath, who seldom stayed at any one place for any great length of time.
Shri Nathji and Prem Nath were a study in contrasts. Shri Nathji would sit in one place and not have the desire to go anywhere, whilst Prem Nath would ever have this active drive within him urging him to seek fresher and fresher pastures. It was thus, that through the inspiration provided by Prem Nath, Shri Nathji was able to give his darshan to many people in diverse places. Shri Nathji always said that it was the Prem- Love-in his name that lured everyone to Shri Nathji.
People would ever stare at this strange pair– Shri Nathji dressed in an achkan, turban and chooridaars, and Prem Nath, in perfect western attire, ranging from three piece suits and bow ties, to leggings and felt hats. Those were the days when only the royalty in India made bold as to dress in western attire to such perfection. As such, Shri Nathji and his brother were considered to be princes from some royal family of India Even though Prem Nath, too, was very exceptionally handsome with aquiline features, yet he had not the radiance or the pink rose complexion of Shri Nathji nor his divine smile and compassionate eyes. Shri Nathji would always remain unique in the Universe, alone and unmatched, not resembling any other human being, no matter how closely related to him.
Shri Nathji took such great care of his brother that he had even arranged for his marriage before he got married himself. Sometime in 1938, Prem Nath’s marriage was performed at Kapurthala State. At that time, Shri Babaji Maharaj had come all the way from Lahore to be present in the wedding procession that went to Kapurthala from Dehra Dun. Shri Babaji Maharaj always said that worldly etiquette had to be observed to perfection: Rishtedaari moti ki aab hoti hai– worldly relationships have to be preserved like the lustre of a pearl.
Thereafter, Prem Nath and his wife had settled down with Shri Nathji at Dehra Dun. Prem Nath acted as a secretary to Shri Nathji and interacted with all the devotees who came for Shri Nathji’s darshan there. Shri Nathji had decided to go to Lahore again after spending some time at Dehra Dun.
