Chabbra tells Shri Nathji that he cannot hear so well–and from that day onwards, whenever he comes before Shri Nathji, Shri Nathji makes an extra effort to speak loudly. Priya Nath always remains worried whenever Shri Nathji has to speak to Chabbra, lest he strain his heart.“Maharaj! Speak to me twice – I am hard of hearing! And Shri Nathji would say:“It is an advantage to be hard of hearing. You get to listen to the voice of God twice! And, in addition, you get to be close to Him!”Shri Nathji also used recollected the lady member of the UNCTAD delegation who came to visit him in 1968 when he was at South Extension Part 1 at New Delhi– a certain Mrs. Marcuse, who was hard of hearing. She had drawn up her chair close to Shri Nathji so that she could hear him better. And Shri Nathji had said to her:“I had prayed to you to cure my ears, but you did not do so. Little did I realise at the time that there was a divine plan behind the deafness. I could not practice law because of my ears and I turned to construction work. I became so famed for my work that they made me Mayor of Dehra Dun!”Shri Nathji had often said: “When God does not listen to your prayers it is only because he wishes to give you something better than you had prayed for!”
