Shri Nathji is writing assiduously as usual – and sings many of his ghazals in bed. He even dances to one of the ghazals, in his weakened state of health. Priya Nath wonders how Shri Nathji can dance at a time like this, when he is threatened by the spectre of weakness and ill health as never before.“I am starving. The diet is too low!” It comes as a great shock to Priya Nath, who immediately stops the hard to digest macrobiotic diet and returns to the normal diet routine. Indeed Shri Nathji had not complained even once of the unpalatable diet Priya Nath had been giving him. He had suffered unendurable agony just to please Priya Nath.“Ham saa naa hogaa daihar men koyi badkumaar“There can be no worse player than me in the worldNo matter how good a faith Priya Nath had been acting in, the very fact that his actions had caused hurt to Shri Nathji was an unbearable thought for him. It appeared as if the forces of evil had been playing surreptitiously upon his mind, causing him to experiment with untried treatments and diets, which existed merely in books and in the theories of unknown doctors abroad.“Sab kuchh lutaa ke hosh men aaye to kyaa kiyaa“On losing everything, I realised my mistake, but alas, too lateHe is constantly worried and afraid lest he may commit some great and tragic mistake which may make Shri Nathji leave his body. It would be a strange contradiction¬ – he who loved Shri Nathji the most, causing him the greatest harm.
