On the 2nd of July, 1988, there appeared an Article of Khushwant Singh in his column in the Hindustan Times–and actually in several other newspapers and magazines all over India, some of which even went abroad.GOD INCARNATE And beneath this heading was the strikingly beautiful photograph of Shri Nathji taken in 1951 at Akola by a certain Vaze Photographer. It was a Face that could belong only to God. Chief Justice Bhatt often used to say about this photograph of Shri Nathji:“Prabhuji! Isse dekhkar to naastik bhee aastik ho jaayegaa!“Prabhuji! Even an atheist will turn into a believer on setting eyes on this picture of Thine!”Here was one of Shri Nathji’s greatest miracles. While generally concealing himself behind closed doors in his house, he made an atheist declare to the whole world that He was GOD INCARNATE – and not only that, He was the Kalki Avatar come down upon earth in the 20th century as had been predicted by the scriptures. That He was Rama and Krishna in the ages past.“It is not often that one meets a person worshipped by thousands as a reincarnation of Sri Rama and Sri Krishna, the long awaited Kalki Avatar, with powers to raise the dead and manifest Himself to His disciples thousands of miles away from Him.“I am Kapahi of the World Prayer Movement,” said the voice on the phone.“I do not believe that prayers can save the world from disaster,” I replied, cutting him short, “I am an agnostic.”“I know,” he persisted. “But Shri Bhola Nathji wants to meet you.”The appointment was made. Kapahi came to pick me up. We drove past Aurobindo Ashram into a side road and pulled up in front of a modest-sized, unpretentious bungalow. Kapahi took off his shoes. I slipped off my sandals. He ran the palms of his hands on the floor of the verandah and smeared the dust on his forehead: for him the bungalow was the Temple of God. A young man rushed forward, shook me by the hand and said:“He is waiting for you!”In the room cluttered with books and pictures was a bed. Reclining against the pillow was a frail man in his 80’s with a saffron bandanna tied round his head. He was busy writing Urdu Poetry. He put down His pen and stretched both his arms towards me. Before I could touch his feet he took me in his embrace. –– Khushwant Singh. For Priya Nath it was a day of jubilation. Here was a historical occurrence! The declaration by a self-professed agnostic, of Shri Nathji’s God-hood.“There is a flower before you. Those who see it from a distance describe it as a red colour. Then there are those who come close. They describe it as red colour and fragrance. And then there are others who come closer and feel its softness as well. They describe it as colour, fragrance and softness. Thus the closer one comes to the flower, the more does the flower reveal itself. In a like manner, the closer one comes to the Avatar – through the heart – the more does the Avatar disclose Himself.“Bhutt Sahib used to say to me: ‘Prabhuji Rama aur Krishna to aap men nazar aate hain, magar uss se bhee zyaadaa aap kitne anant hain usskaa to ham andaazaa bhee naheen lagaa sakte! Shri Nathji had unveiled Himself in the Punjab, U.P., Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, before thousands; many an atheist had seen God in Him; many a saint and sage had found God in Him; thousands of ordinary men, women and children had seen the vision of the Divine in Him; intellectuals, scientists, lawyers and judges, people of all religions faiths, saw in Him the holiest of the holy. Shri Babaji Maharaj had written in his prophecy dated May 18, 1926 at Tehsilpur, Amritsar, that Shri Nathji was God Incarnate upon earth – and here was His prophecy coming true.““You may or may not become mine ,Shri Nathji also praised Khushwant Singh’s innate goodness:“Khudaa to miltaa hai, insaan hee naheen miltaa!“God can be found, but alas, not a human being!”As Shri Nathji discusses Khushwant Singh’s article, he says:“God “God caught hold of his hand and made him write!”Shri Nathji says with some anger:“If anyone comes before me and asks for the proof of the Existence of God, I will say: ‘What can I tell you? You don’t even know what is going on inside your brain – how it works and why – how can you understand God, who made the brain in the first place?”What Priya Nath was worried about most was a flood of visitors after Khushwant Singh’s article – but, thank goodness, Khushwant Singh had not given Shri Nathji’s address in the newspapers. He received many queries on the telephone till he left Delhi for the summer. And thus Priya Nath’s prayers were heard. Only a few persons could locate Shri Nathji and come for his darshan. Priya Nath dared not risk Shri Nathji’s health to crowds of curious people running into thousands – which was what would have happened had Shri Nathji not stopped the crowds with His Divine Power.
