Shri Nathji made a very profound statement:“Jo daavaa kartaa hai ke main manzil par pahunchaaoongaa usse poochhnaa chahiye ke too khud manzil pe pahunchaa hai ke naheen? Agar pahunchaa hai to phir yahaan kyaa kar rahaa hai? Aur agar naheen pahunchaa to too doosron ko kyaa pahunchaaegaa?“If anyone claims to lead you across the Bhav Sagar, the Ocean of Life and Death, then he must be asked whether he has gone across. And if he has, then what is he doing here? For those who go across the Bhav Sagar, never return! And if he has not attained the goal, then how does he know what lies at the goal, and how can he lead people there?”Shri Nathji had never cared about the number of followers a mahatma had as being a sign of greatness:“If the mahatma claims to be great on the strength of the number of followers that he has, then he must be asked–what will be left of his greatness if the followers go away! A mahatma must seek to be great only in the eyes of God and not in the eyes of the world!“As the Persian Verse goes:‘Khilaafe tareekat bavad Aulia‘It is against the nature of Saints“If a mahatma wishes to show his glory on the strength of the number of buildings and properties that he has built–then is he trying to compete with the Birlas and Tatas of the world who have a greater number of buildings and properties!”When Priya Nath told Shri Nathji of a mahatma who was busy increasing the numbers of his followers who were already numbering into lakhs, Shri Nathji said:“Let them not forget Death which is sure to come and which will take away all their possessions, names and titles. Let them make their Peace with God – instead of being distracted by worldly desires.“There was a mahatma who found himself in hell and protested to God. When God asked him whether there had been any shortcoming in his life, the mahatma said:“Koyi kameen naheen thhee! And God said: “Yeho to kami thhee jo too kaih rahaa hai ke koyi kami naheen thhee!“This is the shortcoming – that you are saying that there was no shortcoming!”“Indeed the mahatma’s ego had come in the way. When the multitudes bowed before him he had relegated all greatness to his own self rather than relegate all greatness to God!“Saari duniyaa hi meri hai – main laakhon ki bheerren ikkatti kar ke kyaa karoongaa!“The whole world is mine – of what use collecting crowds of lakhs of people!” “Main chaahoon to ek khshann men saari duniyaan ko bulaa saktaa hoon–magar rakkhoongaa kahaan!“If I so wish I can call the whole world to myself, but where will I keep it!”“Those who desire greatness are far removed from greatness. I have no desire for greatness within me!”At one time Shri Nathji had said: “Mujhe “I do not care for History. Write down the names of those who desire it!”
