On January 30, 1982 it was Basant, the festival in India when the winter season is supposed to end. Shri Nathji was fond of saying:“Aayi basant hue paale urrant”Basant has come and the morning dew has evaporated.”Shri Nathji also had this to say about Basant:BEDAAR HO BEDAAR HOIss jahaane khwaab se bedaar ho bedaar hoAwaken now from this world of dreamsAi dile naadaan ye sab ghaflat shuaari tark karO unenlightened heart, give up thy sparks of ignoranceKab talak shab-haa ki taareeki rahegi iss tarahFor how long shall the darkness of the nights prevail,Teri zaate khaas men khaufe fanaah bilkul naheenIn the reality of thy self there is no fear of death,Teri khwaahish deed ki jab ashkbaari le chukiWhen thy desire to see Him has taken the shape of tears,Jab khudi teri hai garke baadaye anvaar yoonWhen thy ego has drowned itself in His light,Ai sadaaye Nath ban jaa naghmaye sarshaar abO Voice of Nath! Become thou a song of bliss,Shri Nathji and Priya Nath listen to the ghazal again and again later at night, even after the others have gone to sleep in their quarters, and there is the sound of Shri Nathji clapping his hands in rhythm to the music.
