A strange silence comes over the house after Diwali. There is no sound of music, no echoing sermon of Shri Nathji in the big room. Shri Nathji and Priya Nath both feel that someone’s evil eye, nazar, has struck, and that is responsible for the gloom in the house.“Pataa naheen kaunsi aisee kharaab cheez aayi hai–kaunsaa aisaa aadmi yaa aurat jo nazar lagaa gayaa hai!“I wonder what evil force entered here–what man or woman came and struck us with the evil eye!”Shri Nathji would often quote the words of Shri Babaji Bhagwan on the evil eye, “Betaa. Main jadoo toone men to vishvaas naheen kartaa–magar nazar zaroor lag jaati hai!”“Son, I do not believe in black magic–but there is such a thing as the evil eye!”Shri Nathji himself had often said to Priya Nath:“Piyaji, kayi logon ki pathhar-phaarr nazar hoti hai!”“Piyaji, there are some persons whose evil eye can even cause a rock to crumble!”Shri Nathji would narrate how Mrs. Khera used to say to him and Mateshwari about the children, Pran Nath and Priya Nath:“Ainaa noon lukaa chhupaa ke barraa kar lao!
