This hall is in the hall of the world, which is in the Hall of the Universe. We are all gathered here together. Providence has brought us here.HAMEN JALDI KARNAA HAI!We must hurry!Aah ai nadaan kafas ko aashiyaan samjhaa hai tooO Thou living in ignorance! Thou lookest upon this cage as thy Home,We have not come here to stay. Beware lest life deceive thee!“Athhaa to Brahm jigyaasaa”“O Man having come into this world try to seek God.”This world is like a dream, it is a mirage. All who came into this world left. It is good that the time of life is short. In this short span of time before us we must try to understand the purpose of life.Tere seene men to pinhaan baihre bepaayaan raheAn ocean of voluminous billows is pent up in thy Soul,The treasure is with us, at home. All we need is for someone to come and tell us. We are unaware of it.MAIN CHAAHATAA HOON KE MEREIT IS MY DESIRE THAT THE LAST MOMENTS OF MY LIFE BE SPENT IN YOUR SERVICE.For a while let us forget the world and remember only HIM.There are many ways to reach God: Karma Yog, Gyan Yog, Bhakti Yog etc. –but we must find the easiest way.“Sir“Sir Abdul Qadar, man does not enjoy life. For as long as he is living, he is afraid of death–and so he loses the joy of living; and when he is dying he wishes to live–thus he loses the joy of dying as well!”“What must one do then?” Sir Abdul Qadar asked me, and I said to him:“Zindagi uskaa ek hukum hai jo iss duniyaa men le aaataa hai. “Life is an Order of God which brings man into the world, and Death another Order from God that takes man away from this world! There is neither life nor death–there is just his Order. And man must learn to be happy in it.” Man can only say, “Thy Will be Done!”When I was in Lahore I met a certain Rai Bahadur Sant Ram who was a Chief Engineer. One morning he came to my house and took me for a drive in his car. While he was driving he asked me:“Sir, tell me of some easy way of reaching God.”“Huzoor, Bhagwaan se milne kaa koyi saral saa raastaa bataayiye!”And I said to him: “Rai Bahadur Sahib, how many years did it take you to become a Chief Engineer?”“Aapko bees saal lag gaye He was taken aback and said: “Ye bhee to bataa hi rahaa hoon!“I am telling you this!”When he asked me to give some answer to his question, I said to him:“Go and knock at His door!”“Darvaazaa khat khataate rahaa Karen!”The Rai Bahadur was a little disappointed and said:“Haan, darvaaze ke baahar khaarraa khat-khataane ke sivaa aur kar hi kyaa saktaa hai. Darvaazaa to under se band hai na!”And the Rai Bahadur added:“Darvaazaa khat-khataane vaalaa darvaaza khat khataataa hi raihtaa hai yaa darvaaza kabhee khultaa bhee hai“Does one go on knocking at his door forever or does the door ever open?”And I said to the Chief Engineer: “Chief Engineer “Chief Engineer Sahib, I am beginning to doubt whether you are really a Chief Engineer or not!”“Huzoor“Agar darvaaze ne naa khulnaa hotaa to uski jagah par deevar hoti!”“Knock and it shall be opened. Seek and ye shall find!”Go on praying and you will receive an answer to your prayers!I am your slave.MAIN CHAAHATAA HOON MERI AANKHEN BAND HONE SE PAIHLE SAARI DUNIYAA KEE AANKHEN KHUL JAAYEN.IT IS MY WISH THAT BEFORE MY EYES CLOSE THE EYES OF THE WORLD MAY OPEN!You cannot understand God through philosophy and reasoning alone. There was a blind man. Someone asked him whether he wanted rice pudding–kheer, and the blind man asked, “What is kheer like?”“Aisee kheer to tum hee khaayo! Ye to mere gale men atak jaayegi!”“You can eat such a pudding yourself! It will choke me in my throat!”Such is the futility of intellectual reasoning.“Yato vaacho nivartante apraapya mansaa sahaa”You cannot describe water in words. There is no use talking about water only–drink of it, and, if it quenches your thirst, all your questions will be answered.Life is short. We must make haste and find God now!
That which I have with myself is not in an experimental stage, it has become a verified fact.Man complains to God when in misery. But forgets to thank Him when in happiness.“Ekam sad vipraa bahudaa vadanti“He who exists is One, Sages call Him variously.”We can see the Artist in His Art. We can see the Creator in His world. The creation before us is the handiwork of some intelligent power. Dead matter could not have created the Universe with such accuracy!Do not think I am trying to teach you anything!Main aapko saamne bitthaakar apnaa sabak yaad kar rahaa hoon!I am reviewing my own lesson before you!Baihaltaa jiss se meraa dil koyi aisaa na milaa But ke bande mile Allah kaa bandaa na milaaI could not find anyone who could please my heart, But here in this hall I see many genuine seekers after Truth–Lovers of God who have come to listen to my words.Man’s existence is like that of a zero. The entire Universe in itself is a zero–the sun, the moon, the stars, and even the pupil of the eye which sees all these–all are in the shape of a zero. When a zero expands, it becomes a bigger zero. “MainAnd One said: “Ye tum rishtaa torr kar kaih rahe ho ya jorr kar?”“Are you saying this after establishing a relationship with me or without having any relationship?”The zero said: “Rishtaa torr kar to prashna hi naheen paidaa hotaa.”“I cannot put this question without establishing a relationship.”And One said: “Aur rishtaa jorr kar to tum“But when you establish a relationship with me you no longer remain a zero–you become TEN!”This is how man must come before God. When “0” negates itself before “1”, it becomes 10, and when it negates itself again, it becomes a 100, a 1000, 10,000, and then finally infinity. But if it were to reach Infinity and then forget “One” it would become zero again along with all the other zeros.“Jaise ek zero zero, ussee tarah saare zero zero ban jaate hain!”I am not doing a favour on anyone. The Sun, the Light, the Air–they do not do a favour on anyone. They are bound to give what they have.Mere arfaan kaa takaazaa hai ke main azaad hoonIt is my Realisation that I am free,I am convinced there is no condition higher than that silence which comes of the abandonment of all latent desires.Ek icchha poori ho jaaye to kitni khushi miltee hai. Kul icchhaayen poori hon to kitnee khushee hogi.In one desire is fulfilled one derives a lot of happiness.I have no desires within me. I do not want name, or fame or followers. If I had desires within me I would not be able to give anything to others.Aasaan dekhi kaati atgani jo ik noo do kareI have seen a sword that divides one into twoIt is the sword of Love that unites man with man and all of mankind to God.Mubaarik ho Makeene Laamakaan aaye hain duniyaan menGood tidings be to all, the Boundless has come within a dwellingWhen I saw the Pope he was being carried on the shoulders of attendants, and people said that his light is holy, it does not touch the ground. But I said that my light is such that it mingles even with the particles of dust. When the second guest was asked the same question, he praised the food, and the number of dishes that the host had made, but did not even mention the saltless To the guest who had praised him, the host wrote:“I thank you for coming. I thank you for praising my food before others, even though I had forgotten to put salt in the You are living in a palace of gold. But if its foundation is being shaken by an earthquake you cannot enjoy the palace because you are afraid it might fall upon you. In a like manner you cannot enjoy the prosperity of the material world if your heart is shaken by the rude jerks of circumstances. You can only enjoy prosperity when you have peace within you.“Chanchal abhee mana Krishna pramaathi bal badravAs Arjun said to Lord Krishna in the Geeta that the mind is very restless–chan-chal.When I met Dr. Radhakrishanan he posed this question to me. And I told him of the ant which was running hither and thither in apparent restlessness. However, the moment a piece of sugar was placed before it-a bataasaa its restlessness ceased. It had in fact not been restless in vain–but was in search of something, and the moment it found it, its restlessness ceased. In a like manner when man finds God his restlessness ceases.“Inke paas vo taakat hai jiss se logon ke manon ko ek drishti se badal sakte hain!“He has the power to change the hearts of men with a single glance.”I met a famous lawyer in Mussoorie who asked me:“Hamen kyaa zaroorat hai ke ham Bhagwan ko jaanen?”“What need do we have to know God?”And I said to Him:“Duniyaa ke dukh majboor karte hain ke ham Bhagwan ko jaanen! The man was apparently not in any sorrow and said to me:And I said to him:“Kyaa pyaasaa bhee kuaan khod saktaa hai?The man was taken aback and suddenly realised that a thirsty man would have no strength to dig a well. It was a moment of realisation for him and he asked me earnestly:And I said: “When you are not thirsty, then go and dig a well for yourself, and when thirst comes, you drink from it!”We must establish a relationship with God now, before it is too late and the miseries of the world make us helpless.I was writing a letter, and an express letter arrived. I left the letter to attend to the express letter. While I was going through it, a telegram arrived. I left the express letter to attend to the telegram. Even while I was attending to the telegram a telephone call arrived! I had to leave everything to attend to the telephone. And later I read them all! “A doctor must live where his patients are.“Doctor He asked me: LIVE PEACEFULLY,Aayaa hai too jahaan men misaale sharaar dekhO Man, thou has come into this world like a flash of lightning,Remember this life is like a journey. Let man merge himself into God in a similar way.O Brimful is my cup of Joy,I wish to see this happiness in you. I am your servant. You cannot forget me now even if you try. The more you try to forget me the more you will have to remember me– and if you remember me, then how can you forget me!Main kuchh naheen chaahataa–aapko serve karnaa chaahataa hoon!I want nothing from you–I want only to serve you!Mere Blessings aapke saath rahenge! My Blessings shall remain with you!Let the storms come! I spoke to them for one and a half hours. Their guru asked his disciples to look at their watches, and they were surprised to note that such a long length of time had elapsed:“Main tumhen aise vaisee jagah naheen“I have not brought you to an ordinary place! Time is not allowed to come here!”Once when I was at Mussoorie I said:“Shaitaan ko yahaan aane ki ijaazat naheen hai!“Satan is not allowed to come here!”When asked how that was possible, I replied:“Jaise garmi ko pahaarr par aane ki ijaazat naheen hai!”“Just like the hot weather is not allowed to come to the hills!”Balaa manjdhaaraa men kishti ghiriThe ship was surrounded by threatening waves,Be-hijaabaana daraa az dare kaashaanaye maaEnter Thou within these doors of my house,Today, many homes in Maharashtra carry my pictures. A child fell. His mother was in the kitchen, boiling milk. The child tried to get up with his own efforts. He caught hold of a table which slipped away; he caught the back of a chair which fell down; he reached out for a curtain which ripped and fell. When all his efforts to get up failed, he called loudly:“Betaa aaj gire thhe?“Did you fall yesterday as well? “Kal kyon naheen utth ke aa gaye–aaj kaise utth ke aa gaye?“ You could not come over yesterday–how did you manage to come over today?”And the mother added: “Jab tum sachhe dil se pukaarte ho to main sab kuchh chhorrkar chali aati hoon, magar jab tum jhutlaate ho to main bhee kitchen men daal banaayaa karti hoon!”How can sorrow and pain disappear in a moment, I wondered,“Jab ichhaa ho ham usske paas jaayen. “When you are in need, go to Him.Maine aapkaa bahut time liyaa, mujheI took a lot of your time, please forgive me…In ending, even as Shri Nathji had told the gathering his famous parable of the child and the mother, tears had come into the eyes of the listeners and the hall was filled with unprecedented applause.
