Shri Nathji often narrated the story of the stoning of the legendary saint, Sarmad, who had been sentenced to death by the king. “Jo mahaan aatmaayen hoti hain vo “The Great Souls are very sensitive. Babaji was very sensitive.”Both, Shri Nathji and Priya Nath, had been very disconcerted with the attitude of several devotees, whose faith wavered when tests came their way or “sacrifices”, howsoever trivial, were called for. “Nanak kotan men kou ”“Mamak, there is only one amongst crores.”As Shri Nathji had said:“There are thousands who walk on this path. Out of thousands there are very few that reach the destination, and out of these, there are very few who enter within the door!”The war between the world of stark materialism and godliness was waging within every heart. “There is a Kaali Naag in every heart and I have lept into the dark waters to fight it!”The unkindest cut of all was when a close devotee fell along the path. This was what hurt Shri Nathji’s delicate heart the most. Even though the devotee retained eternal faith in Shri Nathji and continued to worship him from a distance, yet he had sacrificed the spiritual values Shri Nathji had stored in him. “Blow, Blow, Thou winter wind,Shri Nathji was in fact, a Being that did not belong to the world, and, as such all human beings who interacted with Him had to hurt him sooner or later. He was like a delicate rose in the midst of thorns whom He desired to make his own.
