Jagatmata Saraswati Devi came to Dehra Dun and lived with Mateshwari for a few months during these months of 1941. For the time that she was at Dehra Dun, there was constant bickering between Prem Nath and her that often took the form of serious quarrels. It was apparent that Prem Nath and his in-laws did not relish the thought of Jagatmata coming to live with Mateshwari at Dehra Dun.
Shri Babaji Maharaj had earlier come and lived in the Dehra Dun house during the marriage of Prem Nath in 1938, but he had not been able to bear the slights given to him by Bimla and her relatives and had left Dehra Dun, never to return. He had preferred thereafter to live permanently at Lahore in a rented house rather than live at Shri Nathji’s home at Dehra Dun–a home that had been overtaken by the forces of evil. Yes, Dehra Dun was to prove as inauspicious for Shri Nathji as Ayodhya was for Lord Rama or as Mathura was for Lord Krishna.
Shri Babaji Maharaj had often used this expression in Punjabi:
Bhatt khaaye sonaa jerraa kannaan noo khaaye!
Of what use such gold that tears the ears!
Finally Mateshwari came and joined Shri Nathji at Mussoorie in September 1941. For some time they stayed together at the Grand Minerva Hotel at Kulri.
Nand Kishore Kasera, the son of Devki Nandan, was with them at the time and often recalled how he would drive Pran Nath in a pram-a perambulator- to the Camel’s Back Road at the bidding of Shri Nathji and Mateshwari, and would later be pleasantly surprised at finding both of them there!
The Kulri Bazar area of Mussoorie had been especially blessed by this short stay of Shri Nathji and Mateshwari at Minerva Hotel. There was some temporary relief to Shri Nathji’s arm, but the pain persisted and the disease continued in an insidious manner. Shri Nathji tried to keep Mateshwari and Pran Nath as happy as possible, playing the role of an ideal father and ideal husband.
