The tin trunks in Mussoorie contained old worn out shirts of Shri Nathji from his early days at Lahore. Indeed most of Shri Nathji’s used clothes, which included, shirts, vests, pyjamas, achkans and turbans, worn over the years since 1939, had been preserved by Mahamateshwari meticulously at Mussoorie in large tin trunks. It was a miracle that they had not been eaten by worms over the long period of time.id to his wife: “This is my passport to the next world!”Shri Nathji’s VestsThen there were Shri Nathji’s half-sleeved vests which also presented problems, as they were either too tight or else hung loosely, and the correct number 90 cms was never available, or else the vests would get shrunk after washing. Shri Nathji would change them every day, or every second day, and there was the danger of his catching a chill every time he did so. Shri Nathji would apply Cuticura talcum powder to his chest and shoulders and armpits and back, and on his stomach before putting the vest on. Many a time he would go on wearing vests with holes in them, without complaining, until Priya Nath spotted the torn vests and had fresh ones brought. Shri Nathji would always be short of vests, and, for some reason, they seemed to be disappearing from the house.Shri Nathji’s SweatersDuring the winter months Shri Nathji would put on two sweaters together, but always with some difficulty. His favourite colours were red, green and brown. In fact any colours that Priya Nath chose for him became his favourite.Shri Nathji’s ShoesShri Nathji wore the shoe size NINE. Priya Nath’s shoe size was seven and a half, but their feet were shaped similarly. “Aap raihne do, main kar loongaa!”“You let them be. I will do it myself! However Priya Nath would insist, and Shri Nathji had no alternative but to allow him. Priya Nath was always afraid that bending over too much might be harmful for Shri Nathji after the operation of his right eye in 1975, and persuaded Shri Nathji many times that he be allowed to tie the shoe laces at least.
