1969 had been an inauspicious year for Shri Nathji. He left for Mussoorie in March 1969 and remained there for several months. Gulshan Joshi, a young man in the army and Shri Durga Das Khosla, a retired postmaster from Hoshiarpur, came to live with Shri Nathji and to serve him at Mussoorie.
While Shri Nathji was at Mussoorie a messenger arrived from Bhopal. His name was Tiwari and he had been sent by Bhutt Sahib with a letter to Shri Nathji. He told Shri Nathji that Bhutt Sahib had had a heart attack and was in a hospital at Bhopal and he had sent this letter to be personally given to Shri Nathji.
Shri Nathji read the letter. Bhutt Sahib had written to Shri Nathji:
“My body has become weak and incapable of serving Thee any longer. If it is Thy wish to take any further sewa from me then give me strength to recover, otherwise send me to the feet of Mateshwari.”
Bhutt Sahib had often said to Shri Nathji in the days past:
“Prabhuji, grant me salvation if you will, but never let the salvation be so permanent that I may never be born again in the world. Whenever you take an avatar and come to the world in human form, please let me take birth as well, so that I can serve you!”
Tewari described the condition of Bhutt Sahib at the Hospital as very weak. However for some time now Shri Bhutt had been seized by a strange fervour of devotion which would make him speak for hours to all those who came to him. He would be speaking about the Glory of Shri Nathji.
Even as Shri Nathji’s eyes read the last line of Bhutt Sahib’s letter, it was 3 p.m. on the 10th of May 1969. Exactly at that very moment, Bhutt Sahib closed his eyes forever and mingled into the Eternal Form of the Divine Mother, Mateshwari. Shri Nathji closed his eyes for a brief second and blessed the soul of Bhutt Sahib.
A few days later, Shri Nathji received a letter from L.A. Muley of Akola. He had read of the passing away of Justice Ganesh Prasad Bhutt on the 10th of May 1969 in all the newspapers of Madhya Pradesh.
Muley narrated how he had met Shri Bhutt Sahib at Bhopal on the 17th of April 1969. At that time Bhutt Sahib had spoken to him and to several other devotees saying:
“Look upon Shri Nathji as your dearest and closest relative, then your own heart shall tell you what you must do for him.
“Prabhuji ko apne ghar kaa sab se priya aur sab se nikat sambandhi samjho; phir aapko unke liye kyaa karnaa hai aapkaa dil khud kahegaa!”
He told the devotees:
“In this Kaliyuga, I understand service to Nathji as the only means of attaining salvation.
“Main ne to Kaliyuga men sewaa hee ko moksh kaa saadhan samjhaa hai!”
L.A. Muley said:
“Prabhuji! I do not understand why it was necessary for Mateshwari and now Bhutt Sahib to leave the world when there was so much need for them. But I must bow my head before Thy Will, and know that there is a meaning behind everything which is known only to Thee.”
Shri Nathji learnt later of the grand funeral procession of Bhutt Sahib on a military gun carriage especially commissioned by the State Government for the purpose.
The flags on government buildings flew on half-mast that day. A former Chief Justice of the State had left the world. There was a gun salute at the last farewell ceremony.
