On the 15th of August 1947, a historic event took place, even as Mateshwari purchased the property known as St. Andrews situated on the Mall Road, Mussoorie.
Years of wandering in Mussoorie and living in rented houses came to an end. It had been the firm resolve of Mateshwari to see that Shri Nathji should live in a house of his own, especially now that he had left his house at Dehra Dun.
She had already paid Rs.4500 as earnest money for the property in November 1946, and she paid the remaining Rs.40,500 before the Sub-Registrar at Mussoorie where the Sale Deed was registered. The property was purchased in her name, as Smt. Savitri Devi. Mateshwari purchased the house mostly from her stree-dhan, the bride’s assets given by her father, Lala Hargopal. She had frequently said to her father that now that he had no obligations left in life he could devote his wealth to serving Shri Nathji.
It was a historic day when Shri Nathji and Mateshwari had gone to the office of the Sub-Registrar for the purchase. It was thus that Shri Nathji sanctified offices that would otherwise have been left bereft of his divine touch.
Everything that Shri Nathji did was ultimately a “bahaanaa-an excuse” for the sake of the humanity around him. Even his continuing to live in the world as a worldly man was an Excuse to give of his Divine Grace to mankind.
Mussoorie had proved to be very auspicious for Shri Nathji. The incurable wound in his arm had healed in the cold and dry climate of the hills. When all of medical science had given up the case as hopeless, and doctors had predicted the spreading of gangrene into the entire body of Shri Nathji, here was Shri Nathji fully cured.
The world would always owe this debt to the sacred mountains of Mussoorie for having preserved the sacred body of the Avatar upon earth. Shri Nathji had always said that Mussoorie was the legendary Kailash Bhoomi where Lord Shankar was supposed to reside. It was but natural that Shri Nathji make this cradle of the Himalayas his home.
