The only disconcerting feature about Vincent Hill School had been the route that led to it. The boys would either have to go around the full length of the Spring Road which was a long distance, or else they would have to take a “short-cut” which meant going up the steep slope that led alongside the Savoy Hotel. They would go to the top of the hill that abutted Spring Road, and then enter into a narrow gap at the top of the hill, and climb downwards on a rugged hill terrain with no well-defined path, which was very dangerous during the rains. Since the boys had to rush most of the time they were always in danger of slipping and falling.
