Shri Nathji has a hankering for ‘“Hamaari Mataji ek kisam kaa poorraa banaayaa karti theen jo barra hi svaad hotaa thhaa. Ulte tave par aisee kamaal ki tandoor jaisee roti banaati thheen!“My mother used to make a poorraa – a flour and basin roti – which was incomparable in taste. She also used to make a thick ‘tandoori roti’ – on an upside down pan.“Hamaari“My grandmother was very fond of entertaining guests. If there were no guest on any particular day, she would say: ‘What an inauspicious day has dawned’.“When someone said to her that guests caused great inconvenience, she said:‘Jis din maihmaan naheen aate to kyaa miltaa hai? Daal-roti. Aur jab maihmaan aate hain to halvaa bantaa hai, pooree banti hai – to maihmaan hi to aakar hamen khilaa jaataa hai!‘When there is no guest – what do we eat? Simple food of ‘daal and roti’. But when a guest comes, tasty dishes like ‘halvaa pooree’ are prepared for his sake. Therefore, indirectly, the guest comes and gives us a feast!’”“At another time my grandmother said: ‘“Let us be thankful that the guest comes to our house and partakes of our food, otherwise we would have to take his destined share to his home!”
