A devotee comes over for ‘charan aamrit’– holy water, to be obtained after washing Shri Nathji’s feet– for a dying terminal patient. Priya Nath avoids the ceremony of the ‘charan aamrit’ and gives the devotee ‘prasaad’ of ‘elaichi’ instead. He is again terribly worried lest Shri Nathji take somebody’s serious ailment upon his own delicate frame.“Good Night, Piyaji! May you sleep well and get up well! I am feeling perfectly all right!”His pulse has become dangerously slow 42-43 and is very irregular, much to the horror of Priya Nath. “Hamen shukr karnaa chahiye ke itne ttheek hain!”“We should be grateful that I am this well!”Shri Nathji says: “Pulse ko kudrat par chhorr denaa chahiye aur zyaadaa chherr chhaar naheen karni chahiye.”“Leave the pulse to Nature and let us not interfere too much with it.”It turns out that Shri Nathji was ahead of his times in medical knowledge. Research workers showed in later years that if an irregular pulse was not producing any symptoms then it should not be interfered with!
