Shri Nathji then narrated his favourite parable of the carpenter and the piece of wood, which he had given in great detail in his masterpiece, Atma Vijaya.A wooden branch from a tree – which was a dried piece of wood – saw beautiful wooden statues, and it also saw the sculptor who was exhibiting the statues. It wanted to be made into a beautiful statue itself and delivered itself up to the sculptor. “The process will be very painful,” said the sculptor, “so make up your mind firmly. I won’t stop till I have finished!”“The sufferings that come in life are a Blessing from God for they draw man closer to God!”Shri Nathji said, very loudly:“I WAS RAMA!He ended His speech with the words:“JAI BHOLA NATH BHAGWAN KI!It was the first time that Shri Nathji had ever hailed himself with the “jai’s” which were always said by the devotees. Shri Nathji emphasizes again and again:“Jaise ke Shri Pran Nathji ne“As Shri Pran Nathji had written to Priyaji from London: ‘All of Pitaji’s powers have entered within you because of the manner in which you have served him!”And Shri Nathji adds, cryptically:“Main ne to“I have taken retirement!”Priya Nath is greatly distraught at this, and writes in his diary of the day:“But Pitaji is wrong. I can never be like Him. I lack His Divine Beauty, His Humility, His Love, His beautiful language – Urdu, Persian, His ability to enamour Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and to speak on their scriptures. No one can ever be like Pitaji – the one and only Pitaji.Indeed, that was all that Priya Nath wanted. The world and salvation did not exist for Priya Nath. Nothing existed beyond that loveable vision of Shri Nathji which was always before his eyes.
