Even as they drink tea for breakfast, Shri Nathji voices a vital truth of Life:“Aaj chaaye pee hai, kal bhee pee thhee, parson bhee – uss se paihle bhee. “We drank tea today, we drank it yesterday also, and in the days before that as well. Time is passing away, if something can be accomplished in it, how worthwhile it would become!”Indeed, Shri Nathji was very fond of tea. Mahamateshwari used to say that R.R. Khanna had “spoiled” Shri Nathji’s habits by making him like tea. Shri Nathji would ask for tea at the flimsiest excuse, and even drink it four or five times in a day. It refreshed him and gave him energy to talk or to record sermons. As a matter of fact he would frequently say before and after a sermon: “Priyaji, ek pyaali chaaye naa pee len? Thakaavat ko door karti hai!“Priyaji, can I have a cup of tea? It appears to remove the fatigue!”It was only many years later that medical science discovered that tea was one of the greatest tonics and health-giving drinks in the world. Shri Nathji had been well ahead of his time. But, then, as the Creator of tea, he would have known what ingredients the substance contained.
