On December 9, 1991 Shri Nathji begins to read the drama he had written in the early 1950’s and which was translated into English and printed in booklet form in 1968 by Priya Nath, entitled: “A House in the Kingdom.” “I, too, shall play a part in it!”The Divine Drama deals with all phases of Faith as seen in the character of a Queen. The Queen is spiritually inclined whereas the King is a materialist. The Queen cautions the King about the temporary pleasures of the world – every flower fades away; every Spring gives place to Autumn; youth turns into old age and old age turns into death. “All right! I will give you this one. But there is a price. I want all your jewellery and ornaments.”For a while the Queen is taken aback and numerous doubts come to her mind about the integrity of the holy man. The holy man reads her mind and says:“O Queen, you doubt my integrity! I shall never give you the house in the Kingdom of God now, at any price! I do not want your jewellery or anything else from you. Please go away and leave me to complete my house!”The Queen is ashamed of herself for having doubted the holy man and asks for forgiveness and promises to bring her jewellery.“You are not the King here,” says the angel, “this is the Kingdom of God. And this House belongs to the Queen alone! You cannot enter within! Begone! You have no house in this Kingdom!”The King awakens in a state of bewilderment! What he had seen was not a dream. It was the REAL WORLD – the Kingdom of God. The Queen was right. The Holy man was right. There was a Kingdom of God – and his Queen had obtained a House in it. He is seized with the desire that he had to have a house there, too.“I offer all the wealth in my treasury for a house in the Kingdom of God! O Saint, please grant me one! You gave such a house to my Queen!”The Saint says: “O King! You have come to purchase a house in the Kingdom of God with your wealth? I am sorry but I cannot give you one! The words of the Saint sting the King to the heart. He realises then, how false and hollow he has been, and how great was the Faith of his Queen. He realises he is too great a sinner to be allowed into the Kingdom of God. Tears of repentance come into his eyes and he says to the Saint:“You are right, O Saint! I have no merit to claim the Kingdom of God! I leave behind my tears of repentance and resign myself to my fate!”Saying this, the King begins to leave. As he takes a few steps, the voice of the Saint rings out behind him:“O King! You have forgotten something! Take this with yourself – A House in the Kingdom of God!”Shri Nathji had beautifully depicted the important spiritual phases that transformed a man’s life:The Realisation that this world is temporary and so are its so-called joys, which vanish no sooner than they come.“Bahut hee kamaal ki hai “It is a unique piece of writing – no one in the world has ever depicted spirituality in this manner!”Shri Nathji had often suggested that he could play the part of the “King” when the drama was staged. Priya Nath would laugh heartily at the suggestion, considering the fact that the King was a materialist and an agnostic in the drama. He wondered how Shri Nathji would play such a role!
