Bad news strikes again. Shri Nathji’s beloved dog, Bhotu, has died at Mussoorie. Shri Nathji used to feed him with his own hands in 1980. The dog was in fact some great soul that had served out its lifetime in Shri Nathji’s home. Shri Nathji would always be overjoyed when he saw the dog, and would say to the dog in a loving voice:“Bho-too! Bho-too!” Shri Nathji’s voice would make the dog go into a state of indescribable bliss, which he would express by the wagging of his tail and barks of joy. “This day the bird has attained paradise, for it had the darshan of Shri Nathji!”Shri Nathji used to tell the parable of the saint who kept a dog at his gate. The saint was visited by Jehangir, the powerful Emperor, who was annoyed at the barking of the dog and had said:“Bar dare darvesh darbaan na baayad!”“Its does not become saints to have dogs at their door!”And the saint had replied: “Baayad! Taake sage duniya na aayad!”“They are necessary! So that the dogs of the world may not enter within!”By “dogs of the world” the saint had meant those who desired only the things of the world. Jehangir had in fact come with such a desire in his mind.
