Shri Nathji had given His darshan to Khushwant Singh, India’s noted journalist, auther, intellectual, and self-styled agnostic on the 18th of June 1988.“Kabhi ai Haqueequate Muntazar nazar aa libaase majaaz men,“O Thou much-awaited Reality, appear once before me in human form,And Priya Nath had added, in his letter:“The Khushwant Singh had replied:“I shall be very happy to meet Him whenever he is at Bombay!”Shri Nathji was in Mussoorie at the time, and never went to Bombay and thus Khushwant Singh never met Shri Nathji in the 1970’s. “I am a hundred per cent sure he will be deeply touched on meeting you!”Shri Nathji agreed to meet him. Shri Nathji was always eager to meet every single person in the world, atheist or believer. He had Himself written in His famous “Message of Peace”:“If anyone despises you, love him. Love even atheists because God is present in them. If within the Divine Being one is an atheist, why should you cease to see the Divine Being in him? Does not the very existence of him who denies prove the existence of God?Shri Vijay Kapahi, the close devotee of Shri Nathji, who Shri Nathji had always referred to as ‘My Victory’ went to meet Khushwant Singh. “I am an agnostic. I do not believe in prayer.”But he agreed to come along with Vijay Kapahi for Shri Nathji’s darshan.“He is waiting for you.”The meeting was most dramatic. “Khushwant Singhji aaye hain!”“Khushwant Singh has come!”Shri Nathji was lying back against His pillows in bed, writing“Be-hijaabaane daraa az dare kaashaanaye maa,“Enter within my doors without the slightest hesitationSuddenly something happened to Khushwant Singh. His Soul became flooded with a Divine Love that was so powerful that he came running to Shri Nathji, and, placing his head upon Shri Nathji’s feet, burst into tears. “Khushwant Singh aaye! Khush-bakht aaye!”“Khushwant Singh has come! A glorious moment has come.”There was a Powerful Divine Glow on Shri Nathji’s Face and He looked more Beautiful than at other times. His Glory was showering Grace into Khushwant Singh’s innermost being.“Yak saayate hazooriye oo een chuneen guzasht“One moment passed together in His Company in such a wayAs Khushwant Singh left the house along with Vijay Kapahi, he said to Vijay Kapahi:“Shri Nathji has a Powerful Divine Glow on His Face – NOOR. I have never seen it on anyone’s face before. I have met all the spiritual leaders but this is the Ultimate Experience.”On July 2, 1988 Khushwant Singh’s column appeared in the Hindustan Times. There was the Akola, 1951, portrait of Shri Nathji in His head kerchief, with the heading:“GOD INCARNATE’ In the article Khushwant Singh narrated his momentous meeting with Shri Nathji and described it as his “tryst with destiny”. He wrote of his agnosticism – and that he “broke down” and fell at Shri Nathji’s feet at first sight. He wrote of the fascinating “unearthly glow” on Shri Nathji’s Face, and of the fact that Shri Nathji was “incredibly handsome”. “Prabhuji, isse to naastik bhee dekhe to aastik ban jaaye!“Prabhuji, even if an atheist looks at this portrait he will become a believer.”Khushwant Singh had himself selected this portrait from amongst several that Priya Nath had given him!“His work must be carried on.”
