Shri Nathji often quoted the following verse which in fact applied to Shri Nathji himself:
Deeno duniyaa dar kamande aanpari ruksaare maa
Har do aalam keemate yak taar mooe yaare maa
This world, and the next, exist in the fairy face of My Eternal Friend,
Both the worlds can scarce fathom the Price of my Beloved.
Gaahe Sufi Gaahe Zaahid, Gaahe Kalandar mi shavad,
Rang haaye mukhtalif daarad Bute Ayyaare maa
Sometimes a Sufi, sometimes a pious man,
    Sometimes a Kalandar–Knower of truth;
Such are the colours of Him, Who is my Beauteous Friend!
A man from U. P. met Shri Nathji in Mussoorie and said: “Sir, do you know who you are?
    And, he continued:
You do not belong to this world. You have come from dev-lok, the abode of the Gods. You have come to the earth to remove the sufferings of the people. Why else would you set foot in such a vicious world?
“Aapko kyaa zaroorat thhee ke aap aisi gandi duniyaa men aate?
This was apparent from Shri Nathji’s golden personality, his infinite love and abject humility, his politeness and manners that would have been the envy of the best of civilizations in the world. Everyone in the world was forced to look upon him.
Although he had concealed his Divine Form from the world, yet his external form was so extra-ordinary that it did not take long for anyone to come to the conclusion that Shri Nathji did not belong to this world but was a Being who had come from somewhere else.
Indeed, Shri Nathji’s life was above all desire. He did not want anything from anyone. He had come only to give freely of his own self. He himself had occasion to say:
I was in a state of great bliss in my abode in the heavens, but I came down upon earth only for your sake!
    He would say:
Main apni samaadhi men ek kshann men jaa saktaa thhaa jahaan ye duniyaa hee naheen hai, magar main aap logon ke liye baithaa hoon!
“I could have entered into a never-ending meditation, where the entire world would cease to exist, but I have chosen to remain here, for your sake.
