By the time Dr. Smith arrived at his home, a surprising change had come about in Shri Nathji. His colour had become pink and radiant again, and his voice had regained its original power. Although his achkan still hung loosely on him, yet it was apparent that a miracle had occurred and that Shri Nathji had returned to normal health again. The divine glow on his face was now in full bloom. He was surcharged with the divine power to inundate the hearts of genuine seekers after truth in America.
One of the greatest debts that mankind would owe to America would be the restoration of Shri Nathji’s health within its shores. From the day he set foot in America, his health began to improve. The symptoms in his arm disappeared all by themselves without any medical attention whatsoever. The greatest medicine for Shri Nathji was the spiritual outpouring of his soul, which went out towards receptive hearts.
Shri Nathji would remain as a Holy Man or as a Swami for many, including Dr. Smith. His inner self would be revealed only in glimpses, and to very few.
At the dinner table, Shri Nathji said the blessing. It was a most unusual blessing for Dr. Smith. Shri Nathji recited the first paragraph of the Universal Prayer, originally composed by Shri Babaji Maharaj. It was a prayer Shri Nathji was to recite several times in America at the end of his sermons. The Universal Prayer written by Shri Babaji Maharaj was now being recited in America:
the universal prayer
I adore Thee as my first beginning.
I aspire after Thee as my last end.
I give Thee thanks as my Constant Benefactor,
I call upon Thee as my Sovereign Protector. Vouchsafe, O my God, to conduct me by Thy Wisdom,
To restrain me by Thy Justice, to comfort me by Thy Mercy,
And defend me by Thy Power.
Dr. Smith and his family were ideal hosts and attended to Shri Nathji’s comfort in every way they could. Dr. Smith would respectfully support Shri Nathji by the arm whenever he climbed the few steps to his room.
When Priya Nath said to Dr. Smith that he was very worried because Shri Nathji had lost weight in London, Dr. Smith said to him: “You should be pleased. Losing weight is good for the health.” His words at once brought great solace to Priya Nath. It was as if Shri Nathji had spoken through him.
Dr. Smith was a philosopher who had many questions in his mind. He was surprised that the moment he sat before Shri Nathji all these questions were answered of themselves. He said to Shri Nathji:
“You have an answer to everything.”
