In November 1975, Shri Nathji and Priya Nath left Mussoorie and took a taxi for New Delhi. Priya Nath had decided that it was time Shri Nathji had an eye operation at New Delhi.
While travelling from Mussoorie to Delhi by car, Shri Nathji had a taste of the tense atmosphere of fear and suspicion prevailing in the country. He was still quite ill and could not see what was going on around him. The taxi in which they were travelling was stopped on the Grand Trunk Road by armed policemen who were examining all cars entering into the Capital.
For three hours, Shri Nathji and Priya Nath sat inside the taxi in the bitter cold of the night while the policemen stopped and searched all vehicles. They questioned the large number of bottles of Sanatogen that Shri Nathji and Priya Nath were taking with them to Delhi as well as the large number of achkans of Shri Nathji and his old wrist watches of Lahore. They wanted to confiscate the old wrist watches and the Sanatogen bottles and demanded money to let them through. Shri Nathji and Priya Nath had a taste of the corruption and terror prevailing during that dark period in the history of the nation. It was obvious that a person’s life and liberty had ceased to be his own.
