When Sudha asked Vijay Kapahi, the eldest son of Charan Dasji, whether he could bring a strip of Vitamin C tablets for Shri Nathji, Vijay responded by saying:“Only one thing? Give me a list of the things I can bring!”Shri Nathji was greatly pleased with the man’s sense of duty and devotion and said:“Vahaan rishtaa hi kyaa huaa jahaan aisee bhaavnaa naheen aati? Aap apne parivaar ke liye jo kuchh karte hain agar Bhagwan ke liye naheen karnaa chaahate to sambandh hi kyaa huaa? Phir to saari upaasnaa sirf zubaani hi raih jaati hai!”“If such a feeling does not exist, there is no relationship! If you do not wish to do for God what you wish to do for your own family members, then there is no relationship with God. All devotion remains a mere lip-service!”Shri Nathji had said in one of his sermons at Akola in 1978:“Bhagwan kaihte hain ke insaan kaa man har ek ki taraf svaabhaavik daurrtaa hai–rishtedaron ki taraf, dhan daulat ki taraf. Kyaa main hi aisee bekaar cheez hoon jiskee taraf zabardasti man lagaana parrtaa hai!”“God says, the mind of man runs spontaneously after the things of the world– after his relatives, after wealth and prosperity. It appears that I, alone, am of no importance to man, which is why he must force his mind to concentrate upon me!”Shri Nathji had also said in the same sermon at Akola:“Kyaa hamaare dilon men itnee bhee jagah Bhagwan ke liye hai jitnee apne sambandhiyon ke liye hai?“Do we have even that much place for God within our hearts which we have for our relatives?”As Shri Nathji said in Punjabi:“Hor vee sab gallarriyaan te Raam-Naam vee ek gal.“Words are but words and the name of Rama just another word,Shri Nathji often spoke of the “velvet shoe”–meaning a form of reprimand in words that were sweet. Shri Nathji was glad he had given his warning and he said, laughingly to Priya Nath later:“Aaj khoob velvet shoe lagaayaa sab ko!”“A powerful velvet shoe was applied to all today!”It was God’s prerogative to chide His children.
