As the days pass by, Shri Nathji becomes weaker and weaker. He can hardly walk to the bathroom, and is drowsy most of the time, not responding to Priya Nath’s frantic queries. “I was feeling quite strong even after the night of suffocation on January 23. This weakness has come after taking all these medicines.”But Shri Nathji stoically continues taking the horrible Depin tablets in obedience to the wishes of the doctor. Priya Nath frequently massages Shri Nathji’s arms and legs over his clothes. Shri Nathji is mostly dressed in his red sweater in bed. He wears this over his warm blue shirt. He is always quick to put a rumaal over his head whenever the doctor comes.“Priyaji, pataa naheen itnaa koelaa khaanaa thheek bhe hai ke naheen. Kissee doctor se poochh lenaa chahiye.“Priyaji I don’t know whether taking so much of coal for such a long time is good or not. We must ask some doctor about it.”There is Sudha working hard in the kitchen and looking after Shri Nathji and Priya Nath both. However she has not been in her usual good mood and appears depressed. The depression is not entirely due to Shri Nathji’s illness, it is also due to some restlessness in her mind, perhaps a desire to return home.Blow, blow thou winter wind,Priya Nath was not aware how many devotees had been informed of Shri Nathji’s heart attack. He was too occupied with Shri Nathji t–o care about these things. Sudha was making the phone calls. “Piyaji, itni worry naa kiyaa karo. Main thheek hoon. Aise hee in doctoron ke chakkar men parr gaye!”“Priyaji, don’t worry so much. I am all right. It was a mistake to have fallen into the hands of these doctors.”Shri Nathji also said: “I am not a heart patient–but these doctors are trying to make me one!”Indeed these words of strength of Shri Nathji were the only power that kept Priya Nath alive at the time. The very sound of Shri Nathji’s voice brought tears into the eyes of Priya Nath.Hamsaa na hogaa koyi daihar men badkumaarThere can be no player worse than me in the worldThe very house which had been vibrating with the sound of Shri Nathji’s voice and the music of his ghazals now stood silent, even as Shri Nathji lay quietly in bed and Priya Nath sat and watched over him, in a darkened room with the severe and depressing cold outside.
