In the morning he tells the touching story of the saint, Bulle Shah, to Sudha at breakfast time. Only Shri Nathji could narrate this story in the manner he did, which brought tears into His eyes and into the eyes of his listeners. For Shri Nathji, even one person was audience enough. He did not believe in collecting multitudes.“Bulle daa ghar kithhe hai?”“Where is the house of Bulle?”The devotee of Bulle Shah slapped Pir Inayat Khan for speaking in so irreverent a manner. But the guru did not mind. He was happy Bulle Shah had become so famous.“Jaa, bulle daa bulla hee reyaa!”“Thou art as ignorant (Bulle Shah’s divine powers vanished. He repented and was penitent. He wished to go before his guru, but was afraid. “Tere ishq ne nachaayaa thhayyaa thhayiThy Love has made me dance a-tripping,The guru recognized Bulle Shah in his Maraasi dress and said:“Bulla hai“No, Sire, it is bhullaa–one who is lost!” replied Bulle Shah. The questions and answers were repented.“Bulla hai?”“Naheen, huzoor, bhullaa!”And the guru got up and embraced Bulle Shah with Love, forgiving all his past transgressions.“Ye duniyaa apoorna ko poornaa samajhti hai, aur poorna ko paagal samajhti hai.”“This world calls the imperfect perfect, and calls the perfect mad, because it cannot understand him.”Shri Nathji quotes his favourite lines:“Jeeyaa to ko samajh na aayi, “O Heart! Thou didst not understand the meaning of life,Shri Nathji also quoted his favorite verse, while narrating the story of Bulle Shah:“Dil ke jaane kee khabar aakil ki kyaa jaane balaa,“How can the intellect know how the heart is lost in Love?Shri Nathji recounts the episode of Moses who had gone up to Mount Sinai and said:“Rabbe AranniAnd a voice had come from the heavens which had said:“Lann TaraaniWhen Moses insisted, God revealed Himself in a bolt of fire that set Mount Sinai alight with flames. Moses fell down unconscious from the revelation, which was too much for him. It was like the Viraat Roop revealed to Arjun.“Ab kyon Moosaa hain gash men khaamosh?“Why lies Moses in a swoon now?Shri Nathji refers to Mrs. Gangabai Bhutt and her devotion and says she has worshipped no one but Him all her life. “Chaahe sarrak par kharre karke mehtar se sau joote lagvaanaa–magar darbaar se naa nikaal denaa!”“Let me be punished on the road by the sweeper striking me a hundred blows with his shoes–but never throw me out from Thy Shri Nathji also lovingly reads out the letter he has received from Mangla, Sudha’s sister, from Nagpur, in which Mangla has written:“Aapki bahut yaad aati haiMangla has sent a pair of knitted orange stockings for Shri Nathji, which Shri Nathji lovingly examines. Sudha finds herself in tears after Shri Nathji has finished.
