These are the days when Shri Nathji and Priya Nath watch the Television Serial, Mahabharata. There is the terrible scene in which Yudhistra gambles away his wife, Draupadi. “There was a time when Lord Krishna had cut his finger, and Draupadi tore a piece of her saree and tied it on the wound. In return, Lord Krishna gave her innumerable sarees at the time of her need!”“Jo Draupadi ko itnee sareeyaan de saktaa thhaa vo apni kati ungli ke liye bhee to kapraa laa saktaa thhaa! Magar naheen! Ussne Draupadi ko itnee sareeyan deni thheen, issee liye kati unglee ka bahaanaa banaayaa!”“He who could give so many sarees to Draupadi could surely have created a cloth for his injured finger. But no! He had to reward Draupadi with sarees in return for her gesture!”Shri Nathji would also voice the complaint of Draupadi to Lord Krishna:“Aap aaye to sahi magar barri der men aaye!“You came to my aid, but you took a long time!”And Shri Nathji would quote Lord Krishna’s reply:“Draupadi, der maine naheen lagaayi, der tumne lagaayi! – Jab jab main tumhaari madad ke liye haathh barrhaataa thhaa, main tumhaaraa haath vahaan paataa thhaa! Jab tumne apnaa zor lagaanaa bilkul chhorr diya to maine kitni der lagaayi? Ussee vakt aa gayaa!”“Draupadi, it was not I who delayed but you! – Whenever I would extend my hand towards your saree, I would find your hand holding your saree! The moment you gave up your own efforts and let go of your saree, – how long did I take in coming? I came at once!”
