Finally Pitaji was brought out from the ICCU in a trolley. He was wrapped from head to foot in a white sheet. The sight of Pitaji trussed up like that finally made it dawn upon me that Pitaji had left the world. He was no more in His Physical Body.“Piyaji, aapne suni nahee meri“Piyaji, you did not listen to my advice in time..”He had been referring to my marriage. O LORD, the one duty that Pitaji had desired to be fulfilled, remained unfulfilled. He had wanted to see me and Bhayya married during His lifetime; He had wanted to see His grandchildren. He had always told me how fond people were of their grandchildren, how Babaji had fondled Bhayya in His lap when He was born, and how Babaji had said to Pitaji before His marriage:“Hamen aur Nath chahiyen!”O Lord, all this was too great a tragedy to fathom. I had remained so engrossed in Pitaji’s illness, that I even ignored the periods of relative good health that came our way, and did not fulfill Pitaji’s last wish.“Piyaji, Hospital “Piyaji, if we go to a Hospital I will not return alive.”And this was what I was seeing before me. O Pitaji, O Lord, why didst THOU allow all this to happen? Why didst THOU stand by and watch the unholy spread of the disease and the ineffective treatment given? “NAHEEN, NAHEEN, PIYAJI! RONAA NAHEEN! MAIN THHEEK HOON!”“No, No, Piyaji! Do not cry! I am perfectly all right.”We went downstairs, where the trolley was briefly halted for a while. Dr. Ravi Saxena asked me to come with him to sign some register.“I am all right Piyaji! I am all right! Goodaa morning! Good Luck to you and Bhayya. May you live long happily, healthily, peacefully and prosperously. May you, I and Pran live long!”From there we took the trolley over the dark grounds of the AIIMS at night. I tried avoiding the little holes and pits along the path so as not to disturb my Pitaji, who was sleeping in the trolley.O Lord, what a terrible calamity! How casually and callously we had treated such a Magnificent Personality during His last days. Even the best of doctors had been of no avail, their medical knowledge thrust aside by Pitaji, and Death invited at their hands. Pitaji had often said:“Jab “When a doctor sits by the bedside of his patient and assures him that he will get well if he takes his medicine, God laughs and says: ‘O Doctor, how willst Thou cure Him, – I am not going to leave even you!”O LORD, what great sins I must have committed to merit this terrible, terrible, bereavement. And yet there was nothing but peace within me, as if Thou had entered there. I was not even crying.
