Shri Nathji had seldom lectured in English before, in his whole life. He had been practically silent all the time he was in London. Shri Nathji’s outburst of English was a miracle in itself. Here was Shri Nathji in America, Speaking English extempore, with a beautiful unending flow of words. His language was sheer poetry. Everything was there, except the Persian verses he loved so dearly. But he would translate them into English and recite them in his own inimitable way.
Did you study English at Oxford? some startled Americans would ask Shri Nathji.
Christians would say of Shri Nathji’s extraordinary language: “In the Bible such a gift of tongues is spoken of!”
It was as if Shri Nathji were possessed of this gift. He could speak in any language he chose to, provided the spirit within moved him.
There were many occasions when he would suddenly stop speaking, shut his eyes, and raise his hands in a gesture of blessing. His listeners would thrill with the vibrating chords of a powerful spiritual melody. The divine effulgence of his face would reach across to their hearts.
Regardless of whether all could understand him or not, they never held his sincerity to doubt.
