JUNE 24 1979
There is light before the coming out of the sun, and light after the sun has set. So it is that the Divine Light that shone before the coming of the 23rd of June is shining forth today after the 23rd of June has gone!
I am a guest of Maharashtra–your guest. A guest who wants nothing from the host. I am like a cow who eats its own grass and gives milk freely to all.
Shri Bal Ojarkar who is sitting here can tell you how his life was saved miraculously many years ago after he had met me. But these are small miracles. Life that has been saved once must eventually go.
I wish to give you that immortal life in which there is no Death.
I give you many things that you desire. But there are many things that I must give you even forcibly!
He, who existed before the world came into existence, He who will exist even after the world has ended, must also exist along with the world–today!
Every person upon earth desires heaven– but no one wants to die!
Moksh to sab chaahate hain magar marnaa koyi naheen chaahataa!
Heaven was becoming a vacant place, therefore I had to bring it down to earth myself!
What is heaven? Heaven is where there is peace, where there is freedom from fear, where there is a relationship with Him.
I do not believe in that kind of meditation which is for your own happiness. I want you to look at the misery of the world. I want your inaction to turn into in action. I want you to do all your works in life taking them to be the orders of God.
Tara Buty declared yesterday at the Dhanwate Rang Mandir that I had revealed myself to the devotees of Nagpur many years ago.
I am sitting before you today. You are referring to me as ‘Bhole Nath of Mussoorie’, but when I return to Mussoorie they shall refer to me as ‘Bhole Nath of Nagpur’.
I had declared openly before the intellectuals at Dhanwate Rang Mandir that my son, Priya Nathji, a Harvard Scholar had stated that: “The Ultimate Discovery of science will be God.” And that discovery has been made!
Saints go inwards within themselves to seek God, while scientists seek Him in the infinitude of the world that exists outside.
When you do your work for your own sake, your work comes within limitations, but when you perform your tasks upon earth taking them to be God’s work, you earn a double salary – which brings you firstly, peace from God, and secondly, prosperity from the world.
Someone said to me that I had become weak, and I replied: “A candle that burns itself out while giving light to others shall have served its purpose in life. A pen that wears itself out while writing will have served its purpose in life if it finish the prose it was meant for.”
Shukriyaa shevaa hai meraa uss men main masroof hoon
Shikvaa haaye gham sunaane ki mujhe fursat naheen
The giving of thanks has absorbed me so
That to complain of sorrows I have no time
Man is the very picture of helplessness. He needs a higher power to be with him all the time. Try to recognise Him.
The most valuable thing that I possess is my son, and I have offered him in your service. Param Pujya Priya Nathji is a part and parcel of me. The sparks of fire contain fire. A drop of nectar contains only nectar.
You cannot cope with the Infinite. God must appear before you in a limited form which you can understand.
The sun rises in the East. It is from India that the spiritual light must go out to the world.
These words are myself in another form. When they enter within your ears and go into your hearts, it is I who am entering therein in the form of my words
Perhaps you will not always hear my voice, but I shall come before you in your dreams, in your contemplations
No matter where you may be, I shall be with you. Even if you forget me, I shall never forget you!
I do not desire name or fame.
Chhorro mujhe bekhud meraa aaraam yahi hai
Be naamo nishaan raihne do bas naam yahi hai
Let me remain in my self-forgetfulness, this is my only rest,
Let me be without a name, that is my only name
A man who is filled with desire can never fulfil the desires of others.
If the whole world were to accept me I would not become big; and if no one were to accept me I would not become small.
How can you leave Truth? To leave truth means to go to untruth.
A millionaire and his servant both can purchase tickets to a lottery and anyone of them can win the prize. Divine Grace similarly can go to anyone.
The light that comes to you from a bulb does not speak. The stone images-moortis and icons that you worship do not speak. But the moorti that is sitting before you just now is one that is speaking as well.
I do not believe that the physical form that I have is any the worse than the moortis of marble made at Jaipur!
After I had finished a sermon, a man got up and thanked me profusely, and I, in return, thanked him for coming to listen to me. I told him that had he not come I would not have had a chance to listen to my own words.
I am a captive enshrined in your hearts. You are free. I have accepted this haar – this garland of defeat at your hands. Victory is yours.
Make me your companion in life. I can be of use to you–like the air which sustains life even when you are asleep.
As I have said before: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God!
If a man could live on bread alone then those who ate would never die. But the history of the world shows that the number of those who have died after eating is much greater than those who have died of starvation!
Do not beg of others! You will belittle God!
A devotee must ask only of God and of no one else. A devotee would rather die hungry than beg from the world.
Today you worry over your needs, but remember that time when you were children and could not worry about yourselves. Even then God was providing for you and had given you parents to look after you.
A Maharaja came to me and said he was very worried all the time, and I asked him: Why did you not worry when you were a child?
He said: I didn’t have the intelligence to worry at that time.
And I said: He who was providing for you then, is also providing for you now. It is only your intelligence that is making you worry!
Jo paihle meharbaan tthaa vo ab naa-meharbaan naheen ho saktaa. He who was Merciful then, cannot be without Mercy now.
I said to the Maharaja: When you came into this world, did you create the State you are living in or was it there already?
No, said the Maharaja, it was already there.
And I said:
Then how did you become Maharaja of the State? If it had existed even before you were born it does not belong to you, it belongs to God.
God laughs on two occasions. The first is when two brothers quarrel with one another over a piece of land, each saying: This land is mine.
God laughs and says: It belongs to neither of you. It is mine!
Kabko kumri men hai jhagrraa ke chaman kiskaa hai
Kal bataadegee khizaan ye ke vatan kiskaa hai
The birds of different feathers do squabble–who owns the garden?
Tomorrow shall the answer come when comes the Autumn
O Lord, give me my daily bread! This is what the Christians ask of God–even the kings amongst them say this in their prayers. Even the kings of the world seek bread from Him, by accepting their kingdoms as gifts given by Him.
I have an aura of blessings around me. It is like the aura of light that surrounds a bulb.
There are three kinds of blessings that emanate from me. The first kind go out towards all, even towards my enemies, but they cannot retain these blessings. The second kind are meant for those who prostrate before me and seek these blessings. The third kind are meant for those who form an abiding relationship with me. They become the special recipients of Divine Grace.
Mareech in the Ramayana had two options before him. The first was to die by the sword of Ravana, and the second was to die by the arrow of Lord Rama–the Raam Baan. He chose to die at the hands of Lord Rama so that his death would become eternal life.
If the light is adjusted, and the camera is powerful, and the lens clean, and I, the photographer, am in a good mood, and you are sitting before the camera, well-dressed, then what a wonderful photograph will be taken! If, however, even one of these things is missing, the photograph will not be perfect. In a like manner, there is a time for Divine Grace, when He is in a generous mood, and you are sitting before him with a receptive heart.
Remember, I have an X Ray with which I can see within your hearts!
Ai laquaayato javaabe har savaal
Mushkil az to har shavad be keelo kaal
Thou art a dictionary who can give the answer to every question,
And the solution to every problem, without asking
Justice B.P. Sinha, who was then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, would often come to me at Mussoorie and his friends would ask him what he had experienced. His reply would be: “I cannot explain the bliss that I feel whenever I am before Shri Nathji. How can the human tongue which cannot distinguish between the taste of a mango and sugar be expected to relate the taste of God Realisation!
The questions of the world of agnosticism have no place here in this atmosphere of Divine Bliss.
There was a group of mosquitoes that came before Indra, the Lord of the Angels, and complained against the wind which would not allow them to remain anywhere. Lord Indra decided to hear their complaint and said: Call the wind! But the moment the wind came, the mosquitoes along with their complaints vanished.
I do not wish to collect crowds. One genuine seed is enough. It has the power to give birth to an infinite number of fruits. But thousands of roasted seeds will not bring forth even one fruit.
I am sitting on Fire! Will not my voice bring forth the genuine moths who wish to merge in my light? The time has come! Even the flies will have to turn into moths now and be drawn towards this flame.
On the 23rd of June, yesterday, the rain prevented many persons from reaching the hall. But perhaps it was just as well. Had even one extra person come, the Divine Grace may not have revealed itself to the extent that it did. I have to protect India. Let me warn all nations who would wish to do India harm:
MERE HINDUSTAN KI TARAFF KOYI AANKH UTTHAAKAR NAA DEKHE!
LET NO ONE CAST AN EVIL EYE AT MY INDIA!
So what if it is poor? It is like a sea-shell, which can produce a pearl. Those who have peace within them cannot be called poor.
Arjuna had only Lord Krishna by his side in the battle of Mahabharata, while his adversary Duryodhana had the armies of Lord Krishna with him. However victory came to Arjuna because the Lord was with him.
I never wish ill upon anyone, but the laws of Nature must act to mete out retribution.
The Law of Karma is the Sudarshan Chakra- the weapon of divine retribution of God.
I am greatly in love with Maharashtra. This land has produced many saints and sages. Even though I endured many sufferings here I accepted them as a mother accepts the pain of child-birth with happiness.
The seed of devotion which I am leaving here, shall grow in Maharashtra. It shall grow of a certainty.
Param Pujya Priya Nathji is that son who wishes to distribute his father’s wealth to the whole world. He knows that his father is meant for everyone and belongs to the whole world.
When I was in America at his calling, many persons came to Shri Priya Nathji and said to him: Your father is the handsomest man in the whole world! Cars would stop along the road as people tried to look at me.
To die while marching onwards is bravery,
And to live after retreating is cowardice!
Where can you hide from God? Death resides everywhere.
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
If your hearts are not in your control then exchange them with mine. I shall set them right!
I have not come to make myself big, nor have I come to make myself small. I am content in myself.
I have to be careful to give you only as much bliss as you can endure. A doctor must give only as much chloroform as his patient requires or else he will not be able to revive him.
If today’s lecture had been delivered at the Dhanwate Rang Mandir Auditorium what a difference it would have made! But perhaps yesterday’s lecture was what was needed for the people there.
I never decide my programmes. I never plan for tomorrow, because there is no such thing as tomorrow. Whenever tomorrow comes it becomes today. My programmes are made spontaneously – they do not depend upon the expectations of a tomorrow to come.
From the very beginning of Creation this time was ordained–that I would be here and you would be before me!
A mahatma from Uttar Kashi came along with his disciples to meet me at Mussoorie. After I had finished speaking, he turned and said to his disciples: How much time has elapsed?
The disciples looked at their watches and said: “About two hours!
And the mahatma said: That is what your watches tell you, but tell me what did you feel?
His disciples said: It was as if not a moment had elapsed!
And the mahatma said:
Kissee aisee vaisee jagah par naheen laayaa hoon,
Yahaan kaal ko aane ki ijaazat naheen hai
I have not brought you to an ordinary place,
Time is not allowed to exist here!
When Lord Rama went to break the Dhanusha-bow at the swayamvara of Sitaji, all the people gathered there wanted him to win. And he broke the dhanusha. He was able to do so because of the strength he derived from the collective good wishes of all his well-wishers present there.
In a like manner I seek your good wishes so that I may be successful in breaking the dhanusha of ‘Maayaa’-the veil of ignorance, for the people of the world, and bring salvation to them. In this storm of Divine Bliss that I have brought, space and time cease to exist. And where space and time cease to exist, cause and effect cease, good and bad actions do not exist, there is no karma and its fruit. The cycle of life and death vanishes–and there is only salvation- moksha.”
(END OF LECTURE)
In truth no one could ever understand the Real Self of Shri Nathji.
Shri Nathji had often quoted the Persian Verse:
Kaukabe vakt maraa hech munnajam na shanaak
Yaa rab az maadare geti ba cha taalaye zaalam
The destiny under which I was born
Can be deciphered neither by the angels nor by astrology.
The glorious Birthday celebrations of June 1979 came to an end, and Shri Nathji and Priya Nath returned to their quiet way of living, absorbed in writing the biography of Shri Nathji, meeting visitors daily, and fighting the forces of evil.
It was astonishing that Shri Nathji was showering so much of bliss and happiness upon the world though living in such difficult circumstances himself. Priya Nath was absorbed for considerable hours every day in drafting petitions and plaints to redress the great wrong done to them. Yet he was doing everything possible to see that the sacred book that he was writing be printed.
