Shri Nathji’s definition of the word Sardaar was: He whose head is ever ready to be sacrificed for the sake of God; he, who knows of divine secrets. Shri Nathji would often break the word Sardaar into: Sar + daar and arrive at the two interpretations given above. Shri Nathji would often quote the Urdu Verse:
Main kushtgaane ishq men Sardaar hee rahaa
Sar bhee judaa kiyaa to Sar daar hee rahaa
Amongst those who died for the sake of Love
I remained forever ahead,
Though my head was taken from me,
It remained with me, still.
