“There was a pandit who often preached to the people on spiritual truths. He would tell them to see God in everyone and everything, reciting the verse of Lord Krishna in the Geeta:
Yo maam pashyati sarvatr mayi pashyati
Tasyaaham na pranashyaami sa cha me na pranashyati
He who sees Me in everything and everything in Me
Is never separate from Me, nor I from him
One day when he was returning home from his lecture, he found himself face to face with a tiger.
He was seized by fear and ran in the direction of his house. Having reached the door he entered within it and locked it from inside. Imagine his horror when he saw the tiger standing before him inside his room!
He was about to collapse from fear, when he heard the voice of the Lord calling out to him:
‘He who sees me in everything and everything in me is never separate from me nor I from him!’
“All at once realisation dawned upon him. He ceased to fear the tiger and instead prostrated at the feet of the Lord. He told himself that it was only to humble his pride that he had been made to forget the truth he had been preaching to others.
“Different devotees have different levels of attainment and each must be left to the realisation that comes from within him at any stage. A devotee may find happiness in adwait. Another may find happiness in dwait. And yet another may find happiness in going from dwait to adwait.”
