Veeran Devi, the elder sister of Mateshwari, remained behind in the flat to pack Shri Nathji’s things there. When Sukhdev found that Shri Nathji had gone, he turned his wrath upon Veeran Devi and would not let her take Shri Nathji’s belongings.
Veeran Devi was afraid. She prayed to Shri Nathji to send her some help. Just then the doorbell rang–and there was Commander Shroff, an officer in the Indian Navy who was a great devotee of Shri Nathji. Veeran Devi explained the situation to him, and he warned Sukhdev to not to obstruct her in any way. Later he gave Veeran Devi a safe passage out of Sukhdev’s flat and saw her to the train to New Delhi.
All this would never have happened had Ram Lal fulfilled his promise to Shri Nathji in time. He had gone back to Akola–and never returned. Such, indeed, were the frailties of human nature.
