On the home front, there is Shri Nathji searching for his thin white silk shawl which he can’t seem to find anywhere in his bedroom. It is not found in the cane chair on which all his shirts, vests, and pyjamas are piled up. It is not to be found in his bed or anywhere in the big room either. Shri Nathji appears to be concerned about the loss of the shawl and says:“Pataa naheen kahaan chalaa gayaa! Kal subha to maine paihnaa thhaa! And then Mangla discovers it suddenly amidst a pile of clothes that were about to be taken out for washing!“There can be no girl like Mangla!”“Mangla jaisee to koyi larrki ho hee naheen sakti!”She is still doing the cooking in the kitchen despite the illness, and Shri Nathji remains very concerned about her.“Ye ghazalen “These ghazals act as a tonic for me!”Shri Nathji’s stomach troubles him again and again during the days that follow, and he frequently sips ‘lassi’ – butter-milk.
